MG TD TF 1500 - TD bonnet latch bolts

I'm installing the hood latches on the wings. Are the 3/16W bolt heads visible when looking downward in the engine compartment or is it the nuts that are visible?

Cheers

Can't say for sure Bill but someone here advised that as a general rule the item that is being fixed has the bolt heads. This was the gen I got when I inquired about the radiator mounting rail bolts. Cheers

Bill, check out pic 106 of TD 11272 taken by Rod Brayshaw in the Gallery on Chris's site. This shows the heads in the engine bay, which complies with the rule above. Cheers

Bill,
Cant say my car is as factory installed but nuts are on the inside with screw heads under the lip of the fender sheet metal. A real PITA to remove and replace on an assembled car. I think the factory added the latches prior to fitting the fenders. Good luck. You may wish to have a surgeon install a second elbow in each arm ;).

Bill,

At 74 I do not trust my memory so I went out and took a look at the car. Again not a factory installed guarantee. The front latch is installed with the nuts to the engine bay side. These bolts are behind the diagonal frame brace and nearly impossible to install without moving the brace. The rear latch has the bolt heads on the inside with the nuts and washers accessible from under the fender. This is in agreement with the above remark about the attached part having the bolt head. If the car is apart for paint it would be easy to follow that rule for both the front and rear latch. I'm certain that MG was interested in the time it took to assemble. Therefore I think the brackets were mounted to the fender before mounting on the car. Good luck with a PITA if your fenders are mounted.

Best regards,

Thanks Peter and Jim. I do have the fenders mounted at this point. Because of my carburetor set up the pancake filters will not clear the right side panel. Originally my thought was to run without the panels and tie the bonnet down with belts. I ended up and put the left side panel on.
