MG TD TF 1500 - TD Canopy

Background:
I know many owners have driven with the top up on very hot days to keep the direct sun off them. It was a new experience for me recently. It was a pleasure and felt 20 degrees cooler.

Years ago I removed all of the screws from the back of the canvas top and replaced them with snaps, including the two straps.

I had also put two snaps on the front side of the top to keep it from billowing up at high speed.

New:
As seen in the first picture I added snaps to the two bows.
I had previously removed the two back screws in the top of the canvas top because of poor alignment and stress on the fabric. Now with the top fully up and all the snaps engaged I re-drilled the holes in the rear bow with clearance for a stainless steel 10-32 screw. To secure the top I contoured a number 10 stainless steel fender washer to fit the top as shown in the second photo.
With the snaps open I folded the corners up under the top in two folds. I then took the remaining section, with the rear window, and pulled it over the rear bow and under the canvas top. I did not pull any of the window over the rear bow. As you can see in the last two photos, there is a flap that just hangs down.

As you can see in the top two photos there is plenty of room for good air circulation and the top is tight and secure.

An added bonus is the ease in using the rear deck.

(that last picture is in reverse. It is not a right hand drive)

Looks like a Bimany top. I did the snaps around the back of the canvas top, although, I didn't do the rest of what you did - in Western Washington State, it doesn't get that hot, but it does make it easier to fold the top down and stow it away. You done good Mort.

I guess I am not following the purpose of the two top snaps. Is that so you can unsnap the top and tuck the back under the bow and then re-snap it?
Christopher Couper

Chris,
Those rear snaps keep the top from billowing and flapping in the wind. They also helped keep the top taut. I do not unsnap them when I tuck in the top.
