MG TD TF 1500 - TD Dash Lights

The ignition/headlamp switch on my TD does not light up, meaning you can't read any of the text in the dark. There is a working bulb behind it as I can see light leaking around the perimeter of the switch. Are you supposed to be able to see the text light up or not?

Thanks

Stuart,
I have had a TD since 1964 and I don't think I have ever seen light that illuminates the ignition switch.

Short of a street light or moon light (with the hood down)

When it is "Off" it is self evident. You can't see a thing in the dark. Set to "Side" you will note a faint glim from the front and the red Lucas buttons glim on the side lights. If you chromed the headlights you can see if they are lit in the reflection.
When turned to "Head". You can see really well in the dark.
You don't need to illuminate the switch. :)

I installed a cigarette lighter so I could plug in accessories, one of which is a light on a flexible cable. You can light up anything you want!

I just thought that it was odd that there is a light under the switch but it does not illuminate anything. Maybe a reproduction switch?

On a RHD vehicle that light would be under the dash guages.no light fitted on ldh.

When I got the car it had several burned out bulbs and a few were missing. Maybe it's just not supposed to have a bulb in that fixture on LHD cars?
