MG TD TF 1500 - TD door piping

the previous owner of my car had the interior done. but they left off the piping for the top of the driver door.
i tried Moss and found the right color. it is Biscuit vinyl. but their piping is 5/32 and is smaller than on the passenger door.
i went to Abingdon. he says he can get the right size but he does not have the right color to match.

looking for a vendor who might carry the right size and color. i can go back to Moss and get 3 more feet and do the passenger door in 5/32 but none of the rest of the car is that size and i like the bigger size. Looking at a number of pics on the web, i see most doors are done in the larger size.

Any suggestions on who else i might try?

Thanks
TLW Wright

Buy the Moss stuff, pick out the stitches, remove smaller piping material and insert larger diameter piping material, restitch?
David Littlefield

Should work, just as long as the earlier line of stitch holes isn't visible. Cheers

If you're going to redo it, you could just get a matching vinyl from a local auto upholstery shop and make your own piping to match...

My memory wants to tell me that the piping on the top of the door is leather, not vinyl. Am I wrong in this? Bud

Leather ex factory.

Hmmm maybe that's the problem. I asked for vinyl and not leather?

Not sure the material is wide enough to sew something bigger. But I may look at that.

I believe the top of the pocket was also leather. It seems the areas deemed to be hard wearing were leather. The less visible parts of the seats however were vinyl (rexine), presumably for reasons of cost. Cheers

looking at the piping i got it is not sewn. it is glued. so after talking to someone at Moss, i decided to buy a yard of material and i went to Lowes where i got a piece of 3/8" foam bead. i can glue it up and make my own piping.
the rest of the material i can use for something else.
TLW Wright

The core material was originally 1/4". See pic. Not sure how durable the foam bead would be as the top of the door gets a fair bit of handling, hence the original choice of leather. Cheers

well right now i am more concerned about matching what is already there. the last owner put the interior in and i don't know where he got it from. either way it is not that old and looks very nice... other than the one piece of piping that is missing.
i tried the piping over some 1/4" rope to see how it would look and it is smaller than what is there. i do want to check some places around to see if they may have a different plastic bead i may be able to use... more like what is there.

Ok.
