MG TD TF 1500 - TD Hubcap Medallion Spring Washers
Has anyone sourced the spring washers for the TD hubcap medallions locally. I'd hate to pay shipping for a $2 order from AS. Just not sure if these are a standard hardware washer that might be carried in a hardware store. |

I got these on ebay, worked great http://www.ebay.com/itm/151210221681 |

Thanks for the link Geoffrey. Now all I need is 45 more wheels and hubcaps :-) Don't need 50 of them for $12.67 though. I'll get off my butt and check the local stores. |

Send me your address and I'll send you some. How many do you want? |

Thanks for the kind offer. Where do I find your address? I only need 4. |

Larry, Abingdon Spares will gladly send such things to via USPS, just ask them. Bud |

Geoff if you take a zinc plated one inch washer, dish it sufficiently with a whack from the ball of a ball pein hammer, invert it so that a split pin just squeezes across the washer & then cover the assembly with a roofing silicon to keep moisture out, you have a very cheap & effective means of attachment. Thanks Bud. I've taken Geoffrey up on his offer, but it's good to know for the future. |

Glad that Geoffrey was able to help you. He was a participant in a good thread in the archives about retainers for hubcap medillion ... http://www2.mg-cars.org.uk/cgi-bin/or17?runprog=mgbbs&access=&mode=archiveth&subject=8&subjectar=8&thread=201402012027465708 I bought a selecion of stainless steel dished, wave, etc. washers and stainless split pins at a local electronic surplus store to secure the medallions to the hubcaps on my TF. Only a few cents each. Perfect. http://www.skycraftsurplus.com/ Lonnie TF7211 |

Like others I object to paying a fortune for simple screws and other fasteners. I made the medallion spring washers out of pieces of plastic salvaged from the lid of bucket. I softened them with my hot air paint stripper before pushing the split pin through the medallion boss and this has provided a nice firm fixing with no chance of corrosion. I have used recycled plastic for all manner of washers and "P" clips and find black, one gallon engine oil containers particularly useful. Jan T |

Larry, they are in an envelope awaiting the postman! Suggestion: I also added a regular flat washer over the spring washer, otherwise the dished washer might rotate around until the cotter pin is no longer over the "dished" part and becomes loose. These make for a good tight fit. To install, I took a piece of half inch copper pipe and cut a V notch in it so that I could use a vise and compress the washer into place, then easily drop the cotter pin in to hold it. |

Thanks again Geoffrey. I'm trying to picture your vice setup, so about how long was that piece of copper pipe? |
L Karpman |
It was maybe six inches long. Most likely I used my Black and Decker worktable which lets you clamp stuff between the boards and has enough depth to take the hubcap as well. I just held the hubcap and the pipe in place until it gripped, and then screwed it down till the washer compressed. |
