MG TD TF 1500 - TD Mystery Part 2

Anyone have an idea what this part might have been used for? Mirror mount? If so, are they available?

I would guess mirror. I've never seen one of these, but there were many different types that mounted in this general aea. You could probably find one that fits, or fill the holes when you have this part re chromed.

It's for the type of aftermarket mirror that has a ball on the end of the arm and a ball on the car, a pair of oblong flat plates with smaller holes, and a central clamping bolt. Not as useful as a pair of fender mirrors, IMHO, one concave, one convex.

It's part of a Desmo mirror. One is fitted to my TF. The mirror itself is oval and has a matching ball. If anyone is interested I can take photos
