MG TD TF 1500 - Td Rear brake backing plate springs

Does anyone have a photo that they can post showing the proper location of the brake shoe springs on the rear backing plate for a TD? I'm doing a Dave Clark axle conversion and, while I think that I have the correct hole postions for the springs, I want to make sure. The WSM doesn't give a good description that I can find. I've had these off in the past and put them back where I found them, but that doesn't mean that they were correct to begin with.
Thanks, Mark

Mark, Dave Brauns site has some very clear pictures in the brake section - I used them when reassembling mine...
Geoffrey M Baker

You mean like this? Bud

Bud Krueger

Duh! I've used Dave's site a lot in the past. Brain fade must have set in. Thanks for the guidance. Interestingly, I had them on correctly. Must have referenced his site or gotten lucky.
Thanks, Mark

Hey Bud. Your brakes have keeper springs. None of those on my 50 TD.
Bruce Cunha

Or mine... the keeper springs worried me...what did I do wrong? Did I throw away those parts? Good to finally be told they didn't exist on my car ...
Geoffrey M Baker

My springs are oriented a little differently.

MG LaVerne

Okay. It apparently doesn't make any difference? Dave's is the strongest assembly and LaVerne's is the weakest. Both seems to work okay from what it appears. Am I missing something serious here or can I go with either installation? I've never heard of either Dave or LaVerne having rear brake problems after their rebuilds on this forum. Mark

Bruce, the anti-rattle springs were not in early TDs. They don't show in the Service Parts List. I'm not sure when they were first installed. Early backing plates don't have the rectangular slot that retains the other end of the spring. Bud

Must remember - LaVerne has yet to use his brakes.

Well,
Now I don't feel so bad

I only chromed my bee hive springs.

LaVerne gold plated his brake shoes

Rod, that isn't gold plate... LaVerne's brake shoes are 24k solid...
He's a bit of a showoff :)
Geoffrey M Baker

Gents,

Did not La Verne change from 24K to a stronger alloy for the rebuild?

Thanks Bud. I was going to ask if that was another of those "modifications" made later on. Thanks for clarifying that.
Bruce Cunha

You guys crack me up :-)

Here's the latest brake job on an MG
