MG TD TF 1500 - TD Side Curtain stowage

Does anyone have the diagram that shows how the side curtains for a TD fit together so they can be put in the side curtain box?

Thanks

Your owners manual has a detailed set of instructions on how to do it. Even after following these instructions it is difficult to get them to fit.

awesome, thanks!

I found this in the original owners manual. A bit different from the diagrams above.

I am assuming the text for "The First type" means early TD.

Rich's instructions relate to the later type
This is the way I stow my 1953 TD side screens. The small Rear side screens have to go in Opposite each other, dropping into the hole in the center. Front side screens go in last with the flaps folded up.
Still a bit of a tight fit.

I am not sure what they are referring to when they say first type and second type. I don't think the stowage box changed any from early TD to late TD? I do in fact own an early type.

What changed was the side curtains. The early TD''s had 2 bows, & the later 3 bows, which meant the side curtains were different also.

First type instructions are the ones to follow if the car has a 2 bow top. Second type if the car has the 3 bow top.

Mine has the 2 bow and I'd been using the incorrect procedure because the repro driver's handbook that I got for it was for a later top.

Either procedure works for both tops, but for 2 bow tops it is easier to stack them outside of the car and then put them in as one bundle. That can't be done with the 3 bow side curtains - they must be placed one by one into the storage compartment in the proper sequence.

gotcha I now understand. Thanks

Got an error in my previous post where I say "either procedure works for both tops."
What I should have said was for the 2 bow top either procedure works. For the three bow top it must be the second procedure.

Rich,
I have an early TD and use the first method. One thing to note is that the parts that protrude downward must be stacked so that they take up the minimum amount of width so that the assembly can fit into the lower, narrower part of the well.
Once I have them stacked I use a long strip of Velcro to hold them all together. I wrap it around the middle from top to bottom. It keeps it all tight and serves as a handle to aid in entry and withdrawal.

Hello all,

I wanted to update you on my findings. I bought the Moss bags for my side curtains. $170 + $20 for shipping, so now I am in $190. I would not do it again. Yes I can return them, but I will probably just call it a lesson learned. The bags are nice and will indeed serve the purpose I intended. I will probably modify them some. For example the extra material that folds over simply just folds over, nothing to hold it in place. A patch or two of Velcro can be sewed into place to help. It appears that one of the bags is made out of a slightly different fabric then the other three (can you see which one?). It is very hard to tell, but I can. The description in the Moss book is very brief. I assumed there would be a MG crest patch on each bag, nope only one! I guess the bottom line is for $170 it is simply a rip off. There is probably $20 worth of fabric, and maybe at tops an hour worth of labor involved in these bags for a professional sewer. My pa, currently in Arizona living as a snow bird, upon return will tell me how stupid I am and say "I can make those for $30!" I don't want to look at them on my bench until June so I will keep the darn things. I may try and talk dad into making some to sell at a much cheaper price and with a better design when he returns. Let me know if you might be interested. (rrking13@comcast.net)

Also, I had a thread about fitting the side curtains in the back storage area of my TD. I have an early TD but managed to fit them in with the "type 2" storage directions. The door was a tight fit and I did not like the tension the curtains put on the door. So for now I just put the front windows in the storage box and the back two behind the seat. I hope this helps someone. Pictures of my curtains in the bags included.
