MG TD TF 1500 - TD Spare wheel carrier badge
Wonder if anyone can help please: after a long long rebuild on my MG TD, one of the last finishing tasks - replacing the MG logo badge in the center of the chrome winged knock-on, on the spare wheel carrier. I ordered the badge from Brown & Gammons. The rear side of the badge has a threaded centrepiece. B&G did not send any fitting accessories, the question is: how to fit the MG badge? Thanks, Doug ![]() |

As far as I know TD's did not have this badging, as they never came with wire wheels. I am sure all you have to do is have the knock-off drilled to accept the badge. Put a nut on the back. Put the knock-off on the carrier, then center the badge. Remove the whole thing then tighten everything up. The TC guys may be able to tell you for sure. ...CR |

Trade it in for a radiator badge and do as CR states. The hole will be much smaller and its made to fit a flat area. |

The problem with using a radiator badge is that when the knockoff is tightened, the badge may be at weird angles - not straight up. Also, the knockoff may be drilled to accept the original badge and not one with a small mounting stud. The solution is to use the mounting the same as a TC. This amounts to a long shaft with a key at the far end which engages with the wheel mount. It has a spring on it to allow the badge to be held close to the knockoff yet turn so it remains right side up. Difficult to explain, but is shown in the Moss catalog. Part numbers 200-265 and 200-255. Below is a photo from B&G ![]() |

Tom: Its true the angle may not be correct at first but all you have to do is put it on and then figure out where it should be aligned to with a piece of masking tape. Then take it off and straighten it out and secure it so it won't move. Then when you put it back on I just hammer my spare knockoff until it is aligned correctly visually. Its not important that its super tight like a regular wheel knockoff. |

Thanks all, yes my TD did not have wire wheels, the TC way seems to be the best solution, thank you LD Palmer. regards, Doug |
