MG TD TF 1500 - TD Studebaker 6 Conversion
I don't want to do it, but I'd like to see a photo of one. I understand this was done in some TD race cars. Any photos available? I've looked in the archives but nothing turned up. PJ |

The Studebaker six was an awful engine. The lower end was not stout enough, and many went blewey well short of 50,000 miles. It would be an awful shame to run a TD with that engine. At least the Volvo engine is European, looks similar, is a very strong engine and is an easily reversible transplant. |

Dave, I agree about the Volvo, but was curious how a 6 cyl in line engine was put in a TD. PJ |

May not be a in-line six, but how about a Chevy 350. This always stunned me. http://www.britishv8.org/MG/DavePlumley-MG-TD.htm Dean |

I think were missing the point here. A Studebaker conversion was completed some years back, might be more than one and that's what I would like to know about. I personally would never convert a T series if there were any chance of making it correct! I'm only interested in the old Studebaker conversion. Thanks anyway. PJ |

I did find this: http://car-from-uk.com/sale.php?id=107654&country=us And this: http://www.mgexp.com/phorum/read.php?46,2158655 It was done at least once. -David |

In our club we have a member with a Jag small 6 cylinder conversion, very well done and no external indication of the change, does intrude into the firewall a tad. |

This does not address the Studebaker question but: when looking for a TD back in the 60's I had a response from an owner of a TD fitted with a Henry J engine. I did not follow up on this car. |
