MG TD TF 1500 - TD/TF Hood Hidem Banding

Hi All,

Does anyone know if the original hood(wet weather) hidem banding on TDs and TFs which is affixed onto the front wood tack piece was just a rexine/vinyl material or in fact a 'leathercloth' type covered hidem?

There may have been a change in the material from grained Leathercloth for TDs and plain Rexine only for the later TFs?

Looks like the same material as the hood. So not Rexine or leathercloth.

I like that the protective tip and the washer with screw on the top is also painted. I have yet to do that on my car.

Hi Chris,

Thankyou for your input.

Do you know any suppliers of the hood cloth type
banding? Woolies Supplies in UK supply a leathercloth
type banding however not as spot on as the TF9052

May be a chance with taking a smaller width banding
with the same profile and then having it covered/stitched
in the hood material.Wondering if anyone has tried this
method?

I have not taken one apart but it seems to be a pretty simple design: On flat piece of material with two stiffeners, some folding and two straight stitches.

Could not some local upholstery shop make this for you if you gave them the material? The guy that did my upholstery years ago made his own hidem.

Hi Chris,

Yes,I was also thinking that may be the best and only way to go.I have an excellent hood maker who would be able to form the banding.Shame not done by the usual upholstery suppliers.

Everything discussed in this thread is commercially available - Hidem in many colours, Rexine and the nice little clip shown in the photo. Just e-mail me and I'll send on the URLs,

For the record, Rexine IS Leatherette IS Vinyl cloth, is Leather cloth ... etc. There are several names all applying to a product commercially known as Expanded Vinyl-Coated fabric.

This product is cut, shaped and processed into may forms. Just Google 'Expanded Vinyl'.

Gord: You have a source for the hidem made of the top material as pictured? Not Rexine or a vinyl like material but the cloth type? Also there seems to be issues with the proper width of many of the hidems out there.
