MG TD TF 1500 - TD verses TF Windshields

Is the shape of the TD and TF windshield frame the same? In other words, do the upper corners have the exact same angle? I bought new upper brackets and they are closer to a 90 degree than an angle like on the TF frame of mine. The new ones are way off in matching the angle of mine. The new brackets seem to be for a frame that's closer to 90 degrees and won't fit! I might have to send mine out and have them restored. PJ

If you check the parts numbers of the corner brackets, they are the same for TD/TF

Thanks Steve, that means these new ones are useless and will go back! I'll have to get my old ones redone. PJ

Paul,
The upper corner brackets have been a continuing problem for me ever since I did my MGA windscreen 20 yrs ago. The angle of the bracket was wrong. I returned the Moss brackets and bought replacements elsewhere.

Just 2 months ago, the same thing happened with the TF brackets: the angle was wrong (see photo). The Moss bracket is laid on top of the original.

My old ones are actually in okay shape (they didn't rust- made of brass). They need only a rechrome on the posts.

Try another supplier (AS).

Yes, I had the same experience with the corner brackets that I bought from B&G. There was a printed note that came with them, that seemed to be saying - don't expect these to fit first off! I was very close to taking them back, but persevered. In the end they did fit with slight elongation of a couple of the screw holes. It seems that you don't assemble the frame corner by corner, but squeeze the whole thing together slowly a little at a time in each corner. Whether this results in bending those corners brackets into the final shape I'm not sure, but somehow I got there. Fitting the glass was easy.

Bending the corner brackets will only break them at top hole on the vertical section. Ask me how I know that! I have to eat one, the other is going back to Moss. There is no reason, other than un attentiveness on the manufactures part, or possibly whoever is ordering them that they should be so screwed up! Their cast brass, so the mold is screwed up! Probably got some rice in the sand box!

One of my originals was trashed, so I ordered the drill and tap to fit bracket. I spent a few minutes carefully bending it to passively fit, marked, drilled, and tapped the holes. Perfect fit and not a big deal to do. Rechroming can alter the angle or thickness of the mitre corner of the frame pieces as well, so some hand fitting may be needed anyway. Read Moss note:
TOP CORNER BRACKET, R/H, drilled & tapped
Note:
Excellent forged brass reproduction of the OE brackets. Due to variations from car to car, the holes may not line up; use undrilled bracket 408-617. George
