MG TD TF 1500 - TF 1414 Progress...

Moving along. While on vacation I installed the Arnolt heater, had my uncle come by and help me with the fit of the bonnet rest rubber, side panels, bonnet, and installed the running boards and front wings.

Said a few bad words and filled the swear jar a few times...

Some pics.

First rate work Frank. I've also found bad words are really helpful. Cheers

Awesome work. There is a known psychological link between swearing and pain control :-)

Frank, seeing your pictures I just went out to the garage and cussed out my TD. No changes so far. Beautiful work BTW.

Frank: I just noticed you painted your fuel tanks ends correctly.

I am still in love with that color combo. I know that Matthew M agrees. :-)

Hey Chris -

Frank did EVERYTHING correctly! It’s a beautiful car.

Hi Frank,

The whitewalls are cool. Can you tell me what they are and where they came from?

Thanks,

Hi Frank,

Great to see things on your TF rebuilt/restored in an excellent way with all items applied and lining up correctly.

You have achieved yet another milestone with the fitting of the bonnet, guards, running board etc. Yes ! I am sure in the past few years my neighbours have also heard some' interesting' words coming out of the garage when rebuilding our 1500.

Cheers

Back in the chicken coop after a two weeks due to work.

Installed the front splash apron along with the piping going around the corner with the end folded in neatly at the tip of the apron.

Other things on the list..... installed my original hardware I had cad plated with manufacture stamps on the head, front bumper, chrome strips on the running boards, repaired one 1130 parking lamp, and maybe a few other things I can't remember. Worked a solid 14 hours straight on Saturday.

Sunday I was hoping to install the head lights but one bucket I got from MOSS was defective. One of the brass fittings used for the adjusters was all galled up. All stripped out when I tried to screw in the machine screw. I'll be calling them tomorrow.

My top bow is painted. Inspected the paintwork Friday. I hope my co=worker friend who used to be employed at a upholster shop in his "previous life" can help me with the hood. Busy guy with young kids. I'll have a case of Sam Adams on hand to give to him for his assistance....

Frank, looking great. There are several threads on installing the hood with snaps at the rear. I did mine that way and, on the few times I have raised the hood, have enjoyed the easy access to the boot and ease of connecting to the top of the windscreen.

Got an inspection sticker for TF1414 Friday.

Put 100 miles on so far taking my mom and friends in appreciation who helped me when I needed another set of hands. Nice scenic side roads though Carlisle and historical town of Concord.

Coincidentally, it was about this time of year when I last took out the TF when I was a sophomore in college in 1987. I was able to persuade the inspector to keep the '87 MA state inspection sticker on the windscreen.

Each time I take it out it just seems to run more smoother for some reason. Top speed so far was 45MPH due to posted limits. Lots of smiles and thumbs up.

Preparing the bow and side curtains to possibly get the hood installed this week. Also change the crankcase oil.

Beautiful! Driving up to Burlington this week? Nice weather, not to late to attend the GOF. I can’t wait to see it.
Be well,

Is that an import emblem on the right bonnet side panel? I never noticed that before. Which one is it: looks to be either a CHR Odendahl or a Molenaar.
Christopher Couper

Thanks for the comments!!

Dave - no GOF this year. Car won't be done in time. Planning on next year though!

My friend helped me the other day install the canvas hood. Next project up are the side curtains.

Well done Frank. It looks just beautiful. I have probably missed earlier reports, but interestingly, my TF left Abingdon in the same colour, Birch Grey, however, not sure what interior colour it would have been. I imagine, it would have been whatever went with Birch Grey, so, you have shown me what my car may have looked like when it arrived into Australia, and before it was monstered by the many different owners over the past 65 years!

As a restorer, it gives me great pleasure to see an MG restored as beautiful as yours.
