MG TD TF 1500 - Tf 1500 questions

Never had to deal with SU carbies before so I need advice on the oil that is put in them.
(1) How much
(2) What type)

Spark plug leads, I have a roll of Copper core spark plug wire is that suitable for the TF.

Thanks

1, fill them to the top, you can't over fill them
2, use engine oil, ore SAE 30
Yes, copper Coe spark plug wires are fine to use.
Enjoy! It is a fun car.

Auto Transmission Fluid is a well accepted liquid for SU Dashpots.

John Twist has been recommending using 90 weight oil in SU carb dampers to help compensate for wear. I tried it on my MGB with HS-4 SUs and it helped cure a mid-range flat spot. The carbs on the TF are like new so I have stayed with 30 weight.
Jack Long

I don't know what the weight is but, I bought a container of SU oil a few years ago and have been using it. Looks like 20 weight, but not sure. Has worked very well with no issues. PJ

I seem to remember that 20 weight was the recommended oil but maybe as the mating parts wear, the viscosity should be increased to prevent flat spots during acceleration.
Jim Merz

It is 20 weight. Go to your local Suzuki, Honda, motorcycle shop and get a litre of fork oil. I believe I paid 8 bucks that will last forever. Oil is greenish.

Years ago I just used motor oil in my LBC's. (60's/70's)

Fast forward to the TF, and wanting to be "kinder" to this one than the cars of my youth, I purchased a couple little bottles of Dash pot oil from Moss with my first parts order for the car.

14+ years later I haven't run out yet so still using it. (a slight top off each season hasn't taken much.)

Seems to me it is a lite oil, witch is what everyone used to recommend, now everyone recommends heavy oil?
