MG TD TF 1500 - TF 2884 60 today
Hi all, Our TF left the factory Jan 27 1954 but sat in a showroom until July. This was probably because of the price of £780, this was twice the yearly take home pay of a skilled tradesman,(I started my Apprenticeship soon after this). Then the purchase tax on cars was 50% and I could only dream of owning one, my wage was £2/11s/6p per week!.I eventually did own one but it was 20 years old before I did, so now we have owned it twice as long as all the other owners combined. Well done Ray! We should see a lot more 60th's for the TF in the coming year, I hope. Cheers, Matthew. |

Congratulations. Nice car Ray. The "TD" wheels (original for TF's in the UK & some other parts of the world) are rarely if ever seen on TF's here in Australia. My understanding is that all TF's imported into Oz then had wires. I've got 6 months to get my TD back on the road before I turn 65. I've owned her for 45 years so I understand & share your sense of pride in a dream fulfilled. Enjoy. Peter TD 5801 |
