MG TD TF 1500 - TF coil springs - Suplex?

The RF corner of my TF is about 2 inches lower than the left so I am looking at replacing the pair. Right now they are on sale at Moss. They offer the standard spring for $88 US for the pair or $ 120 US for Suplex. Are the Suplex worth the extra $ for road use?

I have them (surplux) in my TF (9222) with excellent results. You will likely be replacing these just the one time and I recommend going with the Surples. The additional $$$ are chump change: these classic cars are worth it!

Just before you condemn the front springs just check that the problem isn't the back ones. I high rear spring will result in a low front spring on the opposite corner.

Jack the back up on stands and look at the front independently.

Just to throw another remote possibility in there, I had the same problem and found out one of the front springs was not seated correctly in the top and was hung up on the edge of the centering cup. Centered the spring and the car leveled out. PJ

I like the MGB R/B high performance 480# front springs with a B front sway bar.

I put the Supplex springs in my MGB and found that they are a slightly smaller diameter than stock and did not seat completely in the spring pan. As a result the nose sat higher than normal. It is slowly settling down.

Thanks for your advice. I have now gone through the checks and am quite certain that it is a weak spring. Moss lists the MGB spring at #480 which is presumably 480 lbs per inch compression.
Does anyone know what the standard TD/TF spring rate is?
Is the MGB spring the same diameter so that it will fit the spring mounting points properly?

Yes it fits TD & TF as well as MGA

264-386 is the new number

With with these front springs, a MGB sway bar, Ploy bushings all around, and Michelin tires, My car handles like no MG that came off the assembly line, as stated in Classic Motorsports Magazine September issue.

Moss got back to me about the spring rates. According to them, the TD/TF spring is 354 lb/in, the early B is 348 Lb/in and the late MGB 400 Lb/in.
Their catalog shows the MGB spring as 348 for the early B and 400 for later with up-rated spring spring as high as 600 Lb/in.
The 480Lb up-rated spring for $119 US sounds like the way to go as one of you recommended. thank you. Will also add a B front sway bar this winter.

I worked on a TF with the 480 springs and no sway bar. It did handle much better than the stock springs. It did noticably raise the ride height compared to my TF.

The 264-386 are Suplex is that correct, currently $114/pair with LBCarCo?

Then there is 264-385 from MGB Rubber Bumper, $51.50 each at same source?

Are they the same springs?

I have the MGB Pans/A arms and sway bar here to do the swap.

Just for information.... if you are changing to the MGB springs, you may want to consider replacing the upper locating cups as well. The MGB springs have a larger ID and a slightly larger locating cup. It's hard to see in this comparison photo. The mounting holes are the same. The TF cup will fit inside the B springs will some slop, but the B cup will not fit inside of the TF/TD springs

Thanks, sent an email to the guy I bought my used parts from to see if he has an MGB front suspension still that he can/will raid for them.

Going to start cleaning up the parts during the winter with a view to put it together before spring.

My Dave Clark rear axle arrived this morning, that is first priority. Fortunately garage is heated.
