MG TD TF 1500 - TF door pillar pads

I recently bought this 54 TF and I'm trying to get some things fixed on it. Little things like dash lights not working etc. On each front door post there are two rubber pads. I have one attached and found one under the seat. The other two are missing. My question is,how are these pads attached? Mine are attached with #14 carpet tacks????? This pad gets lateral forces when the door is closed. I can't imagine it was designed this way and that is why I only have one still intact. Can someone tell me the correct method to attach these pads?
Thanks

Four tacks - flat round head wire.

Thanks
You are not talking about the old fashioned tacks that look like miniature cut nails are you?
That's what someone used, and only two to a pad.

As only the head can be seen, it doesn't matter much, but I think they were originally round wire. Definitely four with a flat round head.

There are pics of originals on Chris Couper's 'The Original MG TF' site. Google & then go to the Gallery. Agree about the four tacks. The pics there will confirm their placement. Cheers

The above info is correct. TFs originally had four(4) small diameter
head tacks holding the four(4) rubber buffers i.e. two(2) per front quarter panel. The length of the tack was approx. 3/4".

Depending on the gap between the door and the front quarter panel, these buffers can be sanded down using a pneumatic linisher if required.

Just to clarify my above comments, each rubber door buffer/pad was affixed with four(4) plain(wire?) shank nails.

Yes, with a round shank they are known as wire nails in England.
