MG TD TF 1500 - TF Floor felt sealing strip
Owned my TF since 1969 & it has a strip of black felt 1 inch wide that sits between the wooden floor boards & the metal chassis. As its now deteriorated want to replace but can find no listings any were for this item. It look original. Have tried to upload picture but not successful. Cheers John |

Buy some felt in a roll from the local fabric store and cut some 1 inch strips from it. |

You would possibly be better off using a strip of non-porous rubber that won’t hold water. Felt is not the ideal fabric for our cars if you want it to last. Just a thought. Rod |

I have that felt too (or the grease stained remains of). Most owners do not bother to replace this item. Matthew. |

Might cut down the squeaks a bit, although there are plenty of other sources. :-) |

See if you can lay your hands on some thin ethafoam, a closed cell foam that works well as a replacement for the felt. Electronics components are often packaged in ethafoam. Cheers - Dave |

If I was to use anything I would be using adhesive backed sound deader cut into strips. Graeme |

Despite the advice given above, you never want to use a material which is non-porous. You want to ensure that water trapped above the floorboards can drain down and escape. If water is trapped, rust will ensue. |

It is tempting at times to assume the original builders of these cars were either incompetent, cheap, or only had poor materials to work with. I think perhaps folks who had either built coaches for generations, or cars for decades may have occasionally used the correct material...as Lew says..an open roadster as delivered would need to drain out..or if it was moist would need something that breathed to allow the area to dry so as not to rot or corrode..felt fills the bill....but what do I know. I never built a carriage or designed cars for decades. Regards, Tom |

Thank this was very interesting for a couple of reasons. 1. For future ref felt was used in TFs as I had not seen it mentioned anywhere. 2. I will replace with felt as Lew & Tom's comments make sense to me as both the chassis & floor where the felt made contact show less detrition than other more exposed parts of the car. Cheers John |
