MG TD TF 1500 - TF front hubs
Need help, My front brake drums have me baffled. Drums are on the bench and I thought replacing the seals and bearings would be a no brainer... Not quite. Bearings are pressed into the hubs with the internal spacer between the inner and outer bearings. The spacer has a close tolerance with no real gap or ridge to slide a drift down onto to drive out the race. I know TD's had nice little holes drilled in the hub to facilitate bearing removal not these buggers. How is it done? Thanks guys |

The hubs on the TF and the TD are the same. You can just make out one of the twp notches on the inside of the one on the left that allow you to drift out the inner bearing.

LaVerne, Problem solved. The issue was with both the bearings in place on the hub the drift could not get a purchase on the bearing. So I placed the drift on the nose of the spacer and which drove the outside bearing enough to allow the spacer to move off enough to now drift out the bearings. Sometimes the saying "just use a bigger hammer has its merits". Thanks again Mike |

I have a tack hammer, a ball peen hammer, a claw hammer, a dead blow hammer, a five pound mallet, a BFH, and if all else fails, I use the largest hammer I've got, "the persuader." -David |
