MG TD TF 1500 - TF Fuel Tank Top Strap Bolts

Need a little info on these bolts. Were they chrome inside, cad plated or painted? Were they exposed inside or covered with upholstery? Any info. welcome. Thanks! PJ

Paul
The TF used different bolts here than the TD. They came with a phillips domed head. On the outside was a chrome acorn nut. Moss sells bolts that work but they are hex head. The phillips head bolts/screws appear to be unobtanium.
Ray Badshaw in NZ apparently makes them at times. I am on a wait list for one from him. You might get in touch with him (he's a regular commentater here).

The heads were exposed on the inside, not covered by uphostery.

Painted interior color. Hex head or phillips are both found on TF's. My TF is early with hex. Seems later TF's have phillips. My observations only.

Frank Cronin

I believe some TF's came with hex heads, this has been discussed in the not too distant past, but I don't know the 'tittle' of the thread. Mine has BEES brand hex heads and they are painted interior color.

Thanks for that info. My bolts have a Phillips head, but the X for the screw driver is a little distorted from someone in the past using the wrong size screw driver. My car was built in December 1954 and would like to keep the same type bolt. If I can't make these bolts look presentable, I'll have to find new ones. I'll contact Ray and see when he's making more. Thanks Tom for the lead. PJ

About to make a batch of the Philips round head BSF screws for TF

TF 900 had hex head BEES and TF 3727 had round head Philips, so the change point could be between these chassis numbers?

Image shows a range of screws, bolts etc, showing the TF screw and washer in green in the middle.

The original coach bolts, with original paint,(right)are all TF showing 4 colours including MG Red.

Rod, Please put me on the list for 4 of the Phillips head ones for my TF #8353.

Hello Paul The image shows an alternative you may want to consider. A simple S.S. carriage bolt . Chrome head are available as well . John

At last we have made a batch of TF tank strap bolts with the Philips head, threaded as original in UNF. Note we have not threaded all the way up to the head.

To keep the cost down I have priced them at staff wage rates only as they were made in spare time.

Not sure if this site allows pricing so please email for this.

Rod you have mail! Just ordered a set but need to know which site address to make the payment out to, seeing you have two site addresses. PJ
