MG TD TF 1500 - TF gas tank mounting

Hi all
Working away on my TF restoration. Last year, I replaced one of the "upper gas tank strap mounting"
320-410 screws. Moss supplies a hex head screw. I prefer the look of the old phillips pan head screws. Does anyone have one that they would let go of?

I have viewed Survivor TF's at the GOF in NY and both Phillips heads and hex heads were both used to attach the tank straps. In fact, two of the three that were there used hex heads. I brought up this fact that day to Dave Sander and he was found this fact interesting.

I was curious because my TF also uses a hex head. Most TF's you see are Phillips and the use of hex heads are probably uncommon.

I don't see any issue using choosing one or the other since both are correct. Most likely a supply issue at the time these cars were made.

If you are not an exponent of retaining originality I can offer you another alternative. I used polished stainless steel fillester head allen head set screws on my TF.

I have a supply of these screws that I can let you have if you are interested. Using stainless removes all the issues of chrome degradation.

When I insert some photos in my "Last Hurrah" post you will see the appearance of this option.

Frank, good to know they came both ways from the factory. I currently have 3 nice phillips head and one new moss hex. Think I'll see what this query brings me. I like the look of the phillips head and certainly want all 4 to match.
Graeme, rust was not really the issue. The lost screw was very tight and I ruined the threads in disassembly. I had no idea they were a rare screw!
Would your allen head screws fit the chrome acorn nuts I have?

Thought I'd bring this up again after a week. Any of you TF guys have ONE of these phillips head screws as an extra you could part with ??

We have a press tool that makes the Philips head exactly as original.

If you do not find a second hand one we can make you one.
