MG TD TF 1500 - TF hood frame screws - lost
Hello, Over the years I have lost screws in the hood frame ( See attached photo. ) No idea where they went. I would like to find some new ones, but cant find them in the Moss catalogue. They are countersunk, short and chubby, with coarse threads. In the Norwegian metric market for screws they can be regarded as being made of Unobtainium. Does anyone know the size, thread, and where they can be purchased? regards, Jan ![]() |

Probably shoulder screws, similar to this.![]() |

Hello Paul, No, I do not think they are shouldered - but I might be wrong. regards Jan |

They look like the TD windscreen screws identified here as Phillips, raised, countersunk. Can't help with the thread size or type though. Cheers Peter TD 5801 |

I think they are self tappers. It is common for them to fall out because of constant movement and the relatively thin material of the bows. I have seen the bows and irons bronzed together as a repair. Not something you would want to do with your nicely painted frame. Why don't you take the screw out next to the one that is missing, that looks like an original to me. You may be able to match it at an engineering supplies outlet. |

Thank you Peter and Max. I have tried to source them locally, but inch sized mounting hardware is nowhere to be found these days in norway. It is quite probably so that they are self tapping. I might try to convince a friend with a lathe to spin some copies. regards, Jan |

Jan, Why don't you post an image of the screw, someone may have some. However the screw hole in the bows may now be too big for an original size screw. |
Max Irvine |
Max, You are correct, the holes have enlarged so that the screws now are "self- untapping". I need to find a metric oversize. Thank you for helping along my brain function, I should have understood this without asking! ![]() |

Jan, I just had an idea, I know it is not original but you may be able to fit a countersunk headed pop rivet . I think the bows are hollow so it should work well. |

I just removed one of mine and measured it. Countersunk raised head 4.2mm / 0.16" self tapper originally fitted. Dave H |

Thank you Dave! regards Jan |

Hi Jan, Try the Spalding Fasteners web site. They have virtually every type of nut, bolt and screw and many are in stainless. If you can't get them locally and Spalding wont deliver to Norway get them sent to my house and I will post them on to you. Jan T |

Thank you for your kind offer Jan, I will first see if an oversize metric screw will do the job. Regards, Jan |
