MG TD TF 1500 - TF Oil Gauge Pipe

I've mentioned before that my car came to me semi dismantled and included many non MG parts. I now need details on the oil gauge feed pipe. I have read somewhere that the feed banjo should be fitted to the block rather than the head but there isn't much room. I have found a flexi pipe which fits the banjo and has a angle bracket at the other side. There is also a long copper pipe with fittings for the oil gauge and the flexi pipe but it is so long I could fit the oil presure gauge over the fuel tank! Can someone please explain how the whole lot fits together. Additionally if there is a TF owner to the north of Glasgow - I live in Milngavie - I would really welcome the chance to have a look at certain details of their car.

Cheers

Jan,
This is what my TD looks like. I think the engine and firewall should be somewhere near the same.

The long copper line that goes to the gauge is coiled in 4 inch coils under the dash behind the dash and gauge panel - to absorb any vibration.

Hope this is of use.

Looks like TD and TF had different arrangements. You wont see the TD mounting hole on a TF, which has the bracket mounted to the diagonal stay bolt (on the various original cars that I have seen). The nut holding the union is one of the Simmonds lock nuts used at various places on the TF.

This is the second TF picture I have seen where you have a plastic covering on the tach cable.

Is that original or did you and Colin Stafford call each other up?

None of the original TD pictures I have show this feature. Maybe its a special TF add on?

Anybody in TD camp have this?

Here is another original TF with the plastic sheath covering the tach cable and main wiring harness. Difficult to see but you can also see the brass coupling for the copper oil line attached to a bracket with the aircraft nut Mathew points out.

Tach cable sheath noted on the TF Nitty Details page.

Thanks Guys - all pics good, especially Frank's which shows clearly the brass adaptor and bracket. I have found the latter but didn't know what it was for! Also Rod - I have exactly the same coil as you.

I would like to see the arrangement for the left hand drive TF since the stay brace bolt already has the steering column bracket attached to it. Not sure I can see how the oil line bracket will be placed.

The tach cable covering is the "Protection tube" listed on page K4 of the Service Parts List.
The wiring harness also used several lengths of black plastic tube, we can see some short lengths next to the tach cable. Longer lengths were used to the tail lights and past the oil filter.
