MG TD TF 1500 - TF rear quarter panel

Gentlemen: I'm finally taking apart my 54 tub. Have a question! The rear quarter panels and the wheel arches are shown as separate parts, Are they separate? Mine don't seem to want to come apart and I don't want do any damage trying to force them apart. So! Im wondering if it is just 60+ years of gunk binding them together?
Have looked in the archives but can't find anything relevant.
Thanks in advance for any help!
Best regards

My wheel arches and quarter panels came off as one piece. Cant remember but I think they were spot welded together. I had my 55 tub down to the wood frame. PJ

Yes, they are spot welded.

If your panels haven't been stripped yet to bare metal, you probably can't see the spot welds hidden under the paint.

This can be a bad area for rust in addition to the front quarters of the tub.

They can be rebuilt drilling out the spot welds with a spot weld bit and using the old panels to copy and reassemble with a spot welder. Patience but it can be done.

Hopefully yours are in good shape.

Disclaimer:
I have a TD not a TF.

But the construction of the real Q Panel is similar.

If you replace the inner wells they SHOULD be tacked while assembled on to the frame.

I did not do this, and it has created serious problems leading to distortion and ripples in the sheet metal.
The positioning of the inner well, mated against the rear floor stanchions and then against the lip of the outer Q panel is critical.

If you look at the Hudson Tub Assembly Video, you will see this is how its done.

Many thanks....essentially one piece, each side... Looks like mine are salvageable with some minor welding:)
