MG TD TF 1500 - TF rear springs from Moss

Hello!

The rear springs on my 1954 MG have really given up this summer
after a lot of driving / touring. I see from the archive that some people report inferior performance and early sloppiness with new spring packs from Moss. However, my mg friends locally here in Oslo have nothing but praise over Moss rear springs.

I am therefore tossing out the question again, are the MG TF Rear springs from Moss ok or not ok for a TF driver?

Jan,
I believe that this might be a difficult question to answer,, I might be incorrect, but I don't think that Moss ALWAYS uses the SAME supplier for their springs,,, Springs that were made 10 years ago MIGHT be different than springs made more reciently,,,

Also, Moss Europe likely uses a different supplier than Moss USA, so the springs may be different.

Jan,

What has been your experience with Anglo-Parts in Belgium? Are their prices higher or quality worse than Moss?
David Werblow

Actually I never bought anything from Angloparts, although I have downloaded their pdf catalogues, so I am not the one to judge their quality. Most of what I get from Moss UK is good stuff, but there are of course of exceptions.

Of course Brown and Gammons and Abingdon spares and from the frame up are alternatives. But the customer has little other support when deciding than the experience of fellow T-addicts.

Jan when you say the springs have given up..i am not sure exactly what you mean...do you mean they could not be re-arched? Perhaps that is not as routine a procedure there as here in the states. Regards, tom

There seems to bee only one company doing re-arching in Norway these days, and with typical workshop prices of 125 pounds pr hour I presume that re-arching would be expensive. I have ordered polyurethane bushes and new inter leaf pads from John James of Totallly T type 2, and it seems like he is checking out the possibilities of having a batch of new springs made.

I saw on the MGB BBS that a company in the midlands was recommended, their name is Jones springs. They have a nice website, and offers any vintage MG rear spring made in their workshop. Has anyone tried their products?
