MG TD TF 1500 - TF Rear, Upper Bonnet Side Bracket
Do I need to put shims between the top, rear, bonnet side securing bracket and the bulkhead. The faces of my brackets (where the captive nuts are) are perfectly flat and the bulkhead is not distorted but the hole in the flange of the bonnet side is about 8 m/m out of alignment with the one in the bracket after allowing clearance for the rubber strip. Jan Can you post a photo of the parts you are seeing out of alignment? Rod |

Hi Rod, Photo attached - you can see the temporary shims between the bracket and the bulkhead Cheers Jan T ![]() |

Can you bend the bracket? Best, David |

I have a shim about the thickness of two washers on one side only. I don't believe the side panels have ever been off. Matthew. |

Oops, I goofed. I meant I have shims between the bracket and side panel. Sorry. If you needed to exert pressure to align the holes then that would help clamp the side panel on which is what I imagine was achieved originally. Matthew. |

Hi all and thanks for the responses, My car had a brand new body partly fitted in the 1960s, but never fully assembled. Looking at the photo Chris posted I suspect the tabs on the new bonnet sides are under size. The long dimension is 1" and the smaller one 1/2". Before I cut mine off and fit bigger ones can someone please measure ones that actually fit. Cheers Jan T |

My tabs are 2" long by about 1" wide. Matthew. ![]() |
