MG TD TF 1500 - TF Regulator WARNING ! card.
Hi All and special note to TFer Frank Cronin, On the TF Regulator depicted on TF9052,there is a WARNING ! label which states : WARNING ! DO NOT CONNECT CONDENSERS TO FIELD TERMINALS OF REGULATORS OR DYNAMO A friend of mine here in Perth,WA has a very original TF1250 and this label was also attached through the regulator cap retainer clip when he first acquired the car. In the photo taken by Frank Cronin of TF9052's warning label, the card appears to be a light yellow rather than a manilla folder beige colour. Has anyone else seen this label on other original cars and recall the card colour? Reason for asking is that I would like to make one up for my current TF. Gordon Clark may even still have this warning label on his TF which of course was bought by him from new! Cheers Rob Grantham TF9177("Aramis"),TF9177("Athos"). |

Rob: I have about 4 pictures of these scattered on the TD and TF websites. Its on my To Do list to make one. ![]() |

Chris, where and how would the tag go? I'd love to have one. I've been thinking about the issues that have been discussed extensively about crappy condensers and wondering if they have to be located inside the distributor. Maybe one of our EEs can chime in with a reason. I'm ChemE so I don't do electrons but it would sure make changing out a failed condenser easier if it were outside of the dizzy. Just wondering. Jud |

Sorry to disappoint but mine went many years ago. I've rebuilt the generator at least 3 times. Gord Clark Rockburn, Qué. |

Frank, Cool! That's not where my regulator is but the tag would look neat. Thanks. Jud |

Here is a picture of mine. The wire goes through the holes opposite of what it should be in his is picture. -David ![]() |
D. Sander |
Well, I gave it a shot in Photoshop... how's this for a first cut?![]() |
kmclemore |
OK, that looked like crap. Here's another try, with some texture and contrast added to age it some and make it look more like old paper. ![]() |

KMac, that looks great. Jud |

Thankyou boys for the response. Frank,do you remember the card being light yellowish or more of the usual Lucas beige card look? TF9052,the card may have aged from the typical Lucas card beige colour to light yellow? KMc, an excellent set up re your photo shop effort. Like the aged colour look. Cheers Rob Grantham TF3719("Aramis"),TF9177("Athos"). |

Were these also fitted to TD's? Cheers Peter TD 5801 |

Thanks, guys. Feel free to print it off if you like... you might want to adhere it to some manilla folder material to offer the requisite thickness. Suggestions for improvement welcome! -Kevin McLemore |

Still wondering if they were fitted to TD's? Re feedback Kevin, Chris's seems to be on a a more orange coloured background while Frank & Dave's seem more manilla. If manilla is the desired colour then you should be able to print it directly onto an A4 sized piece of manilla folder using your PC printer, to achieve the desired thickness. If so, you make multiple cards from one page by setting it out, printing it once then cutting the cards out to the correct size. You should get at least a dozen from one page. Also wondering how close the font is to the original? If they were fitted to TD's as well, I'd also like to make some for the guys in our club. Cheers Peter TD 5801 |

I'm guessing font should be Futura. David |
David Wardell |
Peter: Here is one on a TD. Rob: I have never seen one in person so I cannot comment on the material. D. Sander: Is yours an original one or a repo? It sure looks clean. Best I have ever seen. ![]() |

Thanks Chris. Can now attempt to knock up a prototype using a red Futura font on a manilla folder. Well almost. The final item is to determine the precise size/shape. Anyone have a figured drawing? Cheers Peter TD 5801 |

Can an overall dimension be provided so the .jpg can be adjusted to print to size? Jim B. |

Hi Chris, Thankyou for your typical informed, speedy response to my queries.I suspect,as well as TDs and TFs,TCs also had this label warning fitted from the Factory. What a joy it is to have original type TDs and TFs for reference to be able to add 'authenticity' to our cars. Cheers Rob Grantham |
R GRANTHAM |
And thanks to you Rob for initiating this thread. Cheers Peter TD 5801 |

Hi Peter, Pleasure it is Peter. We have our Club Concours this Sunday in Perth. After 8 years with good results for the current TF1250, I am not entering the Concours this year, however nevertheless the quest for authenticity has continued in the past few weeks. The Fuse Block now sports two(2) 50 amp Lucas(yellow paper) pointed contacts fuses, and two(2)Lucas 35amp Lucas pointed contact fuses as per original, the vinyl covered hidem banding on the frontal aspect of the hood cloth has been replaced with the correct hood material covered banding to match the hood cloth exactly, the lettering on the Rocker Cover Cap,(Castrol,Energol,Filtrate etc.)has been black coloured, and now a warning label will be applied to the Regulator! It never stops! Cheers for now. Rob Grantham TF3719("Aramis"),TF9177("Athos"). |

as downloaded the jpg measures about 6-4/4" by 3-5/16" This is too large to fit into the space allotted. I printed the tag by pasting it into MS word. I used yellow card stock. (I make my own greeting cards and I have a supply of colored card stock) When printed the darker of the two JPG's had very poor contrast and the text could not be read easily. I used the lighter of the two. I reduced the JPG t0 3" across the widest diameter. Results are in the picture attached. This is a TD. Jim B. ![]() |

Looks nice, Jim! Glad to see it was useful. |

Gee Jim, wish I knew how to use this darn computer for more than my email. I could use a couple of those |
W. A. Chasser Jr |
WA It would be easy for me to print out a sheet. Perhaps about 12 per sheet. If interested contact me at eeengineer-at-verizon-dot-net. Jim B. |
JA Benjamin |
Jim and I refined the image a bit and I posted a new one on the TD website in the Etchings page. http://www.mg-cars.org.uk/mgtd/mgtd_etchings.htm |
Christopher Couper |
Thanks Chris & Jim. I'll print up a few & pass them out at the MGRA 1st November Tech Day here in Sydney. Cheers Peter TD 5801 |

Chris and Jim, Brilliant! The red printing is much bolder/clearer compared to the one I have printed off previously. The latest issue is terrific. Cheers Rob Grantham TF3719("Aramis"),TF9177("Athos"). |
R GRANTHAM |
I agree! I now have 2 dozen with the ability to print off more at the touch of a button. The manilla folder cut down to the A4 size feeds into my Lexmark without any problems. I get 12 per page. Cheers Peter TD 5801 |
P Hehir |
Looks good, but could use a little refining-"C"&"T" run into each other, should be an "S" on "REGULATORS" to be a little more accurate. |
J K Barter |
Oops! Good pick up on the slight differences on the Warning label. Chris and Jim,can your already excellent effort be now refined to make the small changes? Show Day coming up next week! Cheers Rob Grantham |
R GRANTHAM |
OMG. So sorry. Its fixed now. Just refresh your web browser on the etchings page. Peter hopefully you can sell the flawed ones for millions like the famous upside airplane stamp. |
Christopher Couper |
At the risk of being picky... it's also missing the period at the end of the statement. (sorry!) |
kmclemore |
I don't think it's supposed to have period. While it looks like a period on one image I have I think its dirt. I cannot make a period out on the TF9052 images when I zoom in on it. While there is a small dot there it does not look like a period to me and its too small and below the O. If someone can get me a better image with one that shows a good period I can add it in. ![]() |
Christopher Couper |
Hmm. Well, looks looks there's one on David's too, no?
![]() |
kmclemore |
David's is a reproduction that he made :-) He and I worked from the same source material. |
Christopher Couper |
Chris., Cheers for your immediate upgrade of the Warning label. Refreshed the Browser and up came the new look. Rob Grantham |
R GRANTHAM |
Chris, with a total outlay of about 2 cents I'll take this one on the chin. (If pressed I'd have to admit to being a pretty poor Capitalist). When you guys get it sorted I'll lash out & buy another couple of manila folders, which will produce 4 dozen free warning lables. I'll also be giving away a handbrake bush to the T Type owners who turn up on the 1st November. Cheers Peter TD 5801 |
