MG TD TF 1500 - TF Restoration

This week I had the pleasure of visiting one of Western Australia's most dedicated MG restorers, the level of perfection in all aspects of his latest TF1500 restoration is inspirational to say the least.
I can honestly say I left his workshop in total awe in what I had seen , from the meticulous fitment of the doors to the perfect finish of the chrome only accomplished by hours of preparation which of course he does himself.
The attention to detail is another part of this restoration that is quite unbelievable, this car will be a Concourse winner as was his previous MG TF 1250 restoration.
Our restorer is well known Rob Grantham from Perth Western Australia.
I congratulate him on his undying dedication to achieve such a high level of originality.
Was a pleasure Rob

George you were indeed extended a rare privilege. I recently met Rob when he flew across from Perth to deliver a session at our annual T Type Tech Day at the Lane Cove River National Park here in Sydney, which is always held on the 2nd Sunday in November. Rob is a member of the newly formed national M.G. T Type Owners & Restorers Club and we are pleased to have him. His knowledge of the restoration of TF's is indeed exceptional. You are one lucky man George.

If there are other owners of T or Y Types in Oz who would like to join us, just email me at pjbm (at) bigpond (dot) com. Joining fee is $13 and annual subs are $13. Membership is capped at 100 and we have about 64 already. Cheers

Wholeheartedly agree. Photo shows Rob, Jason Edwards (owner of a mint ivory TF) and myself at the Perth National rally in 2016. (colours look a bit bright in the pic).

A bunch of people on this board has contributed in helping me with my restoration of TF1414. The article on TF interior restoration written by Rob on the Original TF website hosted by Chris Couper sharing his knowledge and experience was paramount when it was time for me to tackle the task.

Looking forward to seeing Rob's TF1500 when it is completed. I'm sure it will be impeccable.

George, Peter, Matt. and Frank,

Thankyou for your above comments. I am really just a trier like nearly all of us who are interested in T type MGs.

One of the best parts about owning TFs since 1976, is the persons I have met and the friendships made. I do know that one(1) individual cannot possibly alone achieve a complete rebuild/restoration. The process inevitably involves input from others. There are so many facets and variables in relation to T types.

Enjoyment of these cars comes in many forms. Matt. is of course a 'TF Practitioner ' who uses his 1500 in many competitive events involving speed trials, hill climbs and motorkhanas. George himself has excellent standards and great mechanical knowledge, Peter's TD, to be completed next year, will be a beauty to detail and we all know about Frank's immaculate Birch Grey TF.

This bbs td tf is an important Forum for so many interested in TDs and TFs.
I am hoping the knowledge continues to be shared between us all ad infinitum.

Cheers

How tall is the fella on the left? Can he fit in a TF? LOL! PJ
PJ Jennings

The answer is a mere 6' 1". I actually find it quite easy to get into the TF.

Bottom in first and then swing in the legs.

Use of the correct, original rubber Dunlop type 'pocket' cushion (seat) assists in not having to look through the upper windscreen frame rail ! !

HAHA good one PJ, yes he is quite tall but he has been getting in and out of TF's since he was a boy so I reckon he would have it down pat.

Rob: The car is looking great and at that real "fun" stage where everything you put on is like a Christmas present.
Christopher Couper

Such impeccable work! I like how you coiled the temp tube, I've never seen one done this way. Amazing how such little things stand out, nice. PJ

Check out the original mg tf website hosted by Chris Couper in the gallery section. Good photos of the engine which showed the coil of the temp capillary tube and other great nitty details....
