MG TD TF 1500 - TF Short or Long Tonneau?
I'm thinking ahead a little bit (not quite ready to fit a cover), but I noticed the majority of TF owners appear to have only the short tonneau, that hides the folded rag top. What is used to protect the actual cockpit area when parked overnight (at a motel) or during rain while parked? Is a long tonneau carried (rolled up) under the short tonneau, ready to use if needed? thanks, Tyler |

I see way more full ones than the original type short jobs. I can't see where the short ones are particularly useful. Just my two cents

Since I don't do well with the sun anymore, I find the full one can be used to provide some use beyond what it was designed for.

Tyler I'd recommend buying only the long tonneau. Especially given your climate in New Mexico. You want to protect your leather from the sun. I use my long tonneau all the time, also int he manner LaVerne depicts in his sec one photo. Tom '54TF |

I have a short one on the 72, but it's only good to cover up the folded top for appearance sake. PJ |

Still looks mighty good to me! Of course, your Garage form is intensified by depicting the two(2) best MGs ever produced-no doubts. Cheers Rob Grantham TF3719("Aramis"),TF9177("Athos"). |

Tyler I live in Arizona so climate and sun are relatively the same. Here is what I do with all my old style roadsters. If I am going to show the cars I use the half cover. If I am going to be running for a while, over a hour, I put the top up and leave off the side curtains on the two that have them. If I anticapte or weather calls for thunderstorms I always run with the tops up and rear curtains on the TD. I carry my other curtains in a canvas bag behind the seat in the TD. Just takes a minute to get them and put them on. The TR3 has a small trunk and protective covers for the side curtains. These are not two part curtains like the TD so they are easier to get on. On Dave Braun's web site he list a person who makes a overnight cover for the MG. You may want to look at this. Joe |

If you're driving solo it's handy to have the passenger side of the long cover fully fitted, to hide luggage etc and to keep the rain out of that side. You can also keep an umbrella there in case you need to stop at traffic lights in the rain. Cuts drag a little bit, too. Regards, David ![]() |
