MG TD TF 1500 - TF side curtain box black ribbon

Does anyone have a source for the narrow, black ribbon (or tape) that's tacked over the rexine/black felt on the underside of the side curtain box lid?
thanks,
Tyler

There is a black ribbon called Bias Binding that is available from Haberdashery shops or Ebay. It can be bought in various widths 12mm or 25mm being two of the widths. I'm not sure if this is the stuff you need but good luck in the hunt.

Tyler - You should be able to get the bias tape at JoAnn's (I know, that is a horrible place to send a man - I usually try to gnaw my arm off if my wife tries to drag me in there - perhaps your wife would get it for you), but they carry bias ribbon or tape. You can get it at any fabric store or upholstery shop. Cheers - Dave

Hi Tyler,

Been away from workstation and have just seen this. The original 'tape' was thin plasticised black rexine, 1/2" wide and fixed to the lid with staples set at around a 45degree angle.

I got hold of some 3/4" plasticised (on one surface)edging that was already folded over 1/4" on one side -I folded over the other side to the middle at 1/4" and contact glued them both down.

Hope this is clear - I got the edging from I think 'Woolies', in the UK. The details came from Matthew Magilton, the source of a lot of original info on TFs.

Hope this helps,

John

Hi Tyler,

As a follow up, in the Archives under 'TF Upholstery Questions' dated 22nd Dec 2010, there is a thread from Matthew Magilton with a pic of the underneath of the lid, showing the 'tape' and some of the staples.

Also other details in the Archives under 'TF side cutain box' which should help you with other rear compartment restoration matters.

Cheers,

John

Don't have a photo of it at present, but mine is a strip of black Naugahyde sewed on each end and down one side with a snap button on one end. Looks professionally done, but we know it's not original, as TFs didn't have black interiors. PJ
