MG TD TF 1500 - TF side screen box fasteners.

Can anyone tell me the size of the screws that go into the captive nuts on the front sheet metal and floor of the side screen box on the TF?
Thanks,
JB

I don't know the exact size, but they will be a British Standard Fine thread, best guess is 1/4 or 5/16. If you will e-mail me at SUfuelpumps@donobi.net, I'll send you a listing of fasteners used in the TF. Cheers - Dave

They are 2BA. According to the photos of the original TF 9052 the screws were slot head with flanged finish washers (not regular finish washers). They were painted over with upholstery color paint. Personally, I think this is ugly, original or not, and I used all stainless components which I lightly polished. Photo attached.
If you would like some of the flanged washers email me your address. I had to buy a minimum quantity of 100 and have plenty left over. I purchased the stainless slot head screws from British Tools & Fasteners. Regards, John

Ask Matthew to take an image of his s/s box screws. I recall the are Philips head but not sure?

I do recall drilling out many of these as they rust into the captive nuts.

Here is Matthews car. The pictures he has posted over the years have been a great help, especially upholstery details. Regards John

Slot head, countersunk is correct on this area on TFs.

There may have been a slight chance of a late change to Philips Head screws for the TF1500.although as stated TF9052 and my own TF9177(1500s),both had the slot head fasteners as have all the TF 1250s I have owned.

Thanks, all. My TF's screws were slotted. Several of them broke off in the captive nuts, but luckily I was able to get the broken scows out without drilling.

All the remaining screws for TF trim are Philips, so the screws in question are against this trend.

As I previously said I have drilled out some Philips in the past but don't remember what TF now.

My observation of Matthews TF some years ago, was it's a very original interior.
