MG TD TF 1500 - TF upholstery
I starting on the assembly of my TF 1500 and before I mounted the body on the frame I was going install some of the interior. Looking at the original TF 9052 photos such as 48 it looks like the top rim pieces are covered then screwed down to the top of the body frame. Before that it would appear that the back top piece is covered with material. Then what looks like an additional piece of thin wood covered in material is screwed in place. Can anyone confirm this is the case. Sorry still have not learned how to rotate the picture for the thread

If using just about any version of windows: Right click on photo then select "open with"...another menu will pop out. Select "Paint" or "Windows Photo Viewer". Either of those should have an option for "rotate 90 degrees". Once you have it right way around go to file, save as, and either re-name it or just save to your desktop. Might ask if you want to replace, if so answer yes. Other programs out there to do it but these 2 are pre-loaded to most windows operating systems. |

I posted some images showing the exact area you want, but I cannot remember the thread title and still have not mastered the own post feature yet. Look in the archives |

rod, I can remember your images but don't believe they show how it is assembled. Can you look at your car and see if the way I described doing it appears correct? |
R Brown |
I didn't comment as I know mine was incorrect and haven't a clue if what I did was right or not! |

I have a photo journal when I took the upholstery apart. The top wood trim pieces are wrapped held together with glue and then screwed down and painted interior color. I think the photos will help answer your question. Just reverse engineer back together. If you have any questions, give me a shout.

Thanks, Frank the last picture was very helpful. It is hard for me to reverse engineer considering I bought the car totally disassembled including the body tub. None of the original wood was present except the wood in the doors. I have already completed a TC and TD but of course TF is different. Sounds like the method I outlined is on the right track. Bob |
R Brown |
Your welcome Bob. What I meant was reverse engineer from my pics. Glad I was able to help. |
Frank Cronin |
Frank, Doesn't look like they used any padding under the wood. I believe they used some felt under the cover on the inner fenders. Is that what you found? |
R Brown |
Yes. Thin felt was used and glued on. |
Frank Cronin |
Great photo essay Frank! Same as my original upholstery. Matthew. |
M Magilton |
Matthew, can you confirm the additional two pieces of shaped red trim that cover the crank handle cut away sections and the darts cut in the main rail cover to glue up into the cut away from your car? |
Rod Brayshaw |
Yes Rod, all looks correct. My cut-outs had slipped off because the glue dried out. Matthew. ![]() |

Frank, Your pictures are the best I have seen for addressing this area. It might be useful if Bud Krueger could load these any any others onto his site and then they could be together as a group. |

Frank, On second thought maybe the dis-assembly pictures for the interior should be on the TF portion of the mg-cars.org.uk with the TF9052 since it appears your pictures are from an original interior. |

Just attempted to look at the up side down photo on my iPad and thought I could simply turn the computer round to get the correct view. No way - the picture follows the screen as I turn it. Will have to stand on my head! Excellent thread for referral. Jan T |

Jan Settings -> General and check Use Side Switch to Lock Rotation. The side switch is next to the volume up/down rocker switch on bottom right of iPad if you hold it in landscape position. David |

Thanks for the great photos Frank, They will be very helpful as I put my interior in. I kept my original interior pieces but took no pictures when disassembling. JB |

Jan, just emigrate to Australia and the picture will look fine. Matthew. |
