MG TD TF 1500 - TF Windscreen Wiper Blades
Price of replacement blades is quite expensive because they are stainless steel. I wonder if anyone has attempted to replace the blade rubber, if so where did you procure the rubber molding. |

Gee Graeme, I have never seen just the rubber replacement, it's always been the whole blade. How would you get the old rubber out, better yet, how would you get the new one in? Ever think of a modern blade rubber that would fit? If you know the measurements of the blade, look in an antique car site, Model A Fords had a small straight blade, among other cars. PJ |

In the archives is a thread from the late Gordon Lawson about doing just that trick. Bud |

Gordon was amazing at recycling! That is how I first met him and possibly he was the one that told me about this site! (He contacted me from an Ebay ad I ran for "MG T Free Carpet from Hell"...pretty sure that carpet is still in the car.) I suspect our wiper blades can be had from more than a few sources. The wipers on my uncles 1937 Chevy are the same as on my TF. |

Just off hand, I'm not in the shop, what's the length of a TF blade. Is a VW blade the same length? PJ |

Blade is 7" long with the square block that takes the arm in the centre. If you see longer blades with the correct central fitting you can cut them down with a sharp knife for the rubber and a junior hacksaw for the backing. Jan T |

Thanks fellas for the replies. There appears to be plenty of flat blades about using an ring eye for attachment as per those on the TD, the TF blades use a spoon attachment that are somewhat rarer to purchase. Thanks Bud for the trace into using the archive I will follow it up. |

Graeme Here is the remnant of the package for NOS TF blades I found a few years ago. Lucas part #741543. I paid about $10 US for the pair. You might try a search for this number. Tom '54 TF ![]() |

Ralph You have busted me, a well known Sydney MG parts supplier whacked me $A66.80 which included delivery for a pair this week. I have found it is not too difficult to remove the old rubber as per late Gordon's great post. Will do some investigation of options to replace the rubber however am a little concerned fitting it past the centre rivet that supports the spoon attachment bracket. Your option might save me considerable grief. |

Hi Ralph, Did the Blades from Auto Surplus have a part number Thanks George |
G Mills |
Hi George. I'm afraid they didn't have a part No. They were all just in a box mixed with other blades and I just rummage thru until I found the right ones.If I remember rightly I had to trim them to length. Cheers. Ralph. |
