MG TD TF 1500 - TF Wiper Motor Mount Question
When I removed the wiper motor off of my '54 TF the rubber mount between the motor and the firewall/cowl was a combination of rubber sheets and cardboard! What is the proper mount? Is it just a piece of rubber the size of the wiper motor base? Approx thickness of 1/8"? Thanks. |

Here is an image from my TF- original as far as I know. 1/4" fiberboard + approx. 3/8" black rubber. ![]() |

Thanks for those measurements Mr Barter. Mine was disintegrated beyond recognition..... A good picture of 9052 ![]() |

On my TF there were two 1/4 thick rubber pieces and the fiberboard piece. One rubber piece under the wiper, and one under the fiberboard on the inside of the firewall for vibration isolation with the studs insulated with rubber tubing also. The result is that the wiper and its mounting bolts make no metal to metal contact. Warning, it is thus not grounded so an additional ground is needed |

There were originally rubber washers on the inside of the firewall- at least on my car. JB |

Thanks for all your input. I guess I was wrong assuming a previous owner used rubber and 'cardboard' for the mount. I'll make up new rubber and fiberboard pieces and also a couple of rubber sleeves for the studs and put it all away for when I'm putting the car back together. Thanks again, Lou |

I have exactly the same cardboard /black rubber piece under the wiper motor in my 1954 TF. Probably meant to reduce the buzzing noise from the motor, although the wire is actually making much more noise than this small electric motor. regards, Jan |

JK Barter, how was the mount positioned, rubber side to the body or to the wiper? John |
JR Mahone |
JR Mahone, and all the mounting is: Wiper, rubber, firewall, rubber, fiberboard, then washers and nuts Note there were two 1/4 sheets of rubber initially! One often omitted by DPO or all installed under wiper by same and fused together to look like single thicker rubber piece so the motor and its bolts/nuts are completely isolated from the firewall for noise reduction. NOTE; this also isolates electrically so a separate ground is needed |

Until we get confirmation from someone that knows the original positioning I'm going to assume that one piece of rubber goes under the wiper motor on the cowl/firewall then another piece of rubber under the firewall/cowl held in place firmly by the piece of fiberboard. What do you guys think? |

L. Staller That was what I had on my TF 1500 when I bought it in 1964 from a Museum The original owner was a Naval Officer on the Saratoga and he only used it in port about 5 months per year until he sold it to the Museum. It only had 4800 miles on it when I bought it in 1964 and it had none of the fixing bt the DPO. This order ,akes engineering sense for sound deadning. |

My original mount is the same as TF 9052: Motor, board, rubber, firewall. Here is a pic from the footwell side showing the rubber washers and large metal washers. Cheers, Matthew. ![]() |

My car had not been restored in the past and was as Matthew described. It is possible that it is two layers of rubber fused together-hard to tell. On the inside are rubber grommets shaped to go into the holes on the footwell side and accommodate the stud and washer to isolate the motor from the metal. See images: James ![]() |

"Motor, board, rubber, firewall." This is what seems to be the general census as to how the wiper motor mounts to the firewall. Although it seems like some cars might have had a piece of rubber on both sides of the fiber board. That's what my mount looks like. Thanks to everyone for their input. Lou |
