MG TD TF 1500 - 'The Red Car' FYI

Someone may have mentioned this iconic book is being republished by "From The Frame Up" in Mesa, AZ and is available on E-bay.
Phil White

Hopefully it is being republished but BEWARE. There is a different book, also titled "The Red Car" which was written by an author named Dermansky. That book is NOT about Hap and his MG TC. Don Stanford was the author of the book which we TC, TD and TF owners relate to.

Good call Bob. I nearly fell into that trap. Cheers

Many thanks Phil. You are correct that "From the Frame Up" is selling the Don Stanford book titled "The Red Car".

On your advice I checked it out on E-bay and found it at the amazing price of $20 US. I did have to type in "by Don Stanford" in the search because without that it presents the unrelated book, with the same title, by Marcy Dermansky.

Thanks again for letting us know.

Having never read the book and hearing about how it turned many toward their love of MGs I decide to buy the FTFU offering. I found it quite entertaining and enjoyed the writing and plot. The only negative I found was that it ended too soon. But honestly I couldn’t put it down. Wish there had been a sequel.

I know From The Frame Up and The Roadster Factory are selling it, but did FTFU actually spearhead it being reprinted? I assumed it was TRF because they're selling it for only $15. Wonder why the difference in price.

Just in case you missed it, there is an account of Don Standford writing this book in the most recent issue of Moss Motoring. He also wrote a mystery book featuring the TC.

I have other boys books from this time period and also from pre-WWII. The Burt Levy books are great, too. These books are part of our MG and sports car heritage.

Hi Bill,

You make a good point. Yes, it is a pity there is not a sequel! There is an opening for a good writer among us to do just that!!! I guess there could be copyright issues? (Although with a new book with new title I am sure that could be sorted with Don Stanford's family?)

Cheers,

Knowing that it's unlikely to happen it has been a dream of mine that this story be made into an animated movie along the lines and style of Spielberg's "The Adventures of Tin Tin."

It has a limited kind of audience, but then again so did Tin Tin since the origin of the Tin Tin series is in the old French comic book format serials. It works beautifully as an animation and I can see "The Red Car" fitting into the same type of animated format that Spielberg used in "Tin Tin."

Oh well, it's a childlike dream of an older fella who loves TCs ... :-)
