No detail too small LaVerne. I have a lot still to learn.

This is the one that was in the barn with the TC I brought out here a couple of winters back. This won't be a full restoration either. It was painted back in the 70's and never put back together. I imagine this will be much like the TC was. Make it road worthy and finish putting it together. Several months worth of work I'm sure.

MG LaVerne

I'll get it on the lift tomorrow and start looking it over, but already it has a couple of mysteries.

MG LaVerne

Wonder what this came from?

MG LaVerne

Yes, looking forward to your new adventure, Huib

Sooo, is it yours??or are you doing it for some one??
Steve Wincze

"Wonder what this came from?"

Ha! It could be from just about anything. When I was assembling mine I just grabbed a standard 52mm thermostat from my shelf that was the temp I wanted (180).

One of the shops I worked at as a kid had an assortment of universal outlets - 52mm hole with slots for the bolts. I don't know who the supplier was.

Belongs to the Doc that owned the TC...just helping him get it together and it will go on to his grandson.

Car was built March 1954....5 days after my TF...tag says that it was originally black. Got it on the lift to day and looked it over. Found some more mysteries.

The car had a wire wheel conversion apparently shortly before it went into storage..maybe part of the deal with the paint? The steel wheels are still in his barn along with a lot of other MG stuff. Anyway it took quite a while to get the front drivers side wheel off. Some back and forth and some WD40 and some wacks with a rubber mallet and it finally came off. Hubs and splines look brand new but no one gave them a good dose of grease when the went on. The mystery came when I looked inside the hub. Hmmm roller bearings in there. I'm sure I'll be pulling both front hubs to have a look at what was done. Missing the locking tabs on the nuts

MG LaVerne

Here's one that never ocurred to me before. Both are the original alloy type and not the steel replacements and both were installed inside the front panels.

MG LaVerne

An examination of the engine compartment revealed that the dynamo was a 52 model....looking closer I see that the distributor is a TD type...hmmmm...the engine tag was covered with old paint but after some time spent cleaning it revealed that sure enough it was a TD block from the 52 era. Also notice the bent radiator stay.

MG LaVerne

Head number shows to be TF and I found out why removing the valve cover proved stubborn. The longer shaft from the later head was wedged against both ends of the rockershaft. The other end showed greater evidence of the ill fit but the photo file is too large to post here.

MG LaVerne

The wiring in general is an electrical tape wrapped mess. I think a new harness will be in order.

MG LaVerne

The pads between the leaf springs turned to goo some point...much like my waist line.

MG LaVerne

Typical chopped off overflow pies that I have found on all off the T cars that have rolled into my place.

MG LaVerne

For some reason I thought that the car was originally red...which would have made sense seeing this...but not so much when I looked at the tag and saw it was originally black.

MG LaVerne

Not even close.

MG LaVerne

Whatever works i guess

MG LaVerne

Not the first time I've seen a plug that needs a pair of channel locks to remove it.

MG LaVerne

Tie rod ends don't look so good...nor do the rack boots

MG LaVerne

Single fan blade might be a little in effective for cooling.

MG LaVerne

Steering wheel is going to need some serious work

MG LaVerne

Think thats about it for now...I'm thinking about creating a blog page for this project rather than posting all of this here.

What do you think about that?

Maybe similar to the one John did for his TF...

MG LaVerne

Whatever you decide. I cant wait for what comes, wish I could be there and have a cold one and join the discussion. would be fun. are you going to Louisville for the big meet this summer?
TRM Maine

Thanks LaVerne,
