MG TD TF 1500 - Together for 50 years

This might be of interest. You might have to copy and paste to your browser. It’s about a couple who have been married and owned a TF for over 50 years!

Wonderful story! I'm planning to have one of my cars at least 75 years but I have a ways to go.

Ro and I used to go to The British Invasion at Stowe, Vermont before moving to Tampa Bay Area of Florida. There was a couple form the Buffalo, New York area who owned a red T-series MG. At that time the wife said she and her husband owned their car 48 years. If this couple are still "on the green side of the sod" by now they would have it some 55 years.

I've owned my leaky, cantankerous 1951 TD for 5 years but it sometimes seems like 50. :-)

I have owned "My First Car" for 61 years now. It was not always on the road, but is now very nice to look at. I drive my TF way more than the truck. It is much more comfortable.
Cheers, Byron.

My first car is the 1934 Ford Pickup.

In June 1951, I picked up my new MG TD from the dealer. We are still together after 67 years of companionship and wonderful experiences. We still enjoy a day on the road in the Canadian Rockies. My wife and I also travelled in the TD on our honeymoon in 1955. The car has been involved in almost every kind of motor competition and has survived. Those days are over, and we now have the pleasure of sunny drives on paved roads in spectacular scenery. I still enjoy the work it takes to keep the MG in good running condition and usually put around 2000 miles on it each year. It has just turned 82000 true miles as I put it away for the winter. I'm already looking forward to next summer's road trips. At my age of 87, the question seems to be, who is going to outlast the other.

George Raham: Fascinating story. Do you have any early pictures from the 50's of your car you would like to share?

These stories from original owners are getting scarcer each day I am afraid. Even when the owner was in their late teens or early 20's you are now approaching 90 years old in some cases. And to think that they still have the cars in their possession is mind boggling, let alone quite active with them. I know of only a handful.

Only a technicality (father had my name on the registration when new along with his) allows me to claim original ownership.
