MG TD TF 1500 - Tom Lange, Original Port of Entry?
Tom, Is there any way of finding the original entry point of my car TF8353? Some believe it was an original California car, but their only guessing. PJ |

Unfortunately, not from me. My Production Records show only the date made, the chassis # (including paint color for TFs only), the engine # and whether the engine was changed. But from what I have read, it appears that there is more surviving information on TFs available from the UK - a Heritage certificate, maybe? From Gaydon? Others know more about this. My TF was purchased in Fresno, CA in 1963. I have traced every day of its history since then. I have found another black TF 1500 that was several cars ahead of mine in production, and built on the same day. This car has history traced back to the first owner, who bought it from a dealer in Fresno, CA. Based on the facts that cars were produced in color batches, both cars are the same color, both cars left the factory on the same day, and both cars were in the Fresno area, I have reasonably concluded that my car was shipped to the Fresno, CA area based on this information. I do not know if there is any information available that can track shipping information on the cars, I was able to piece this information together. David |

Dave: If your car was first sold into Fresno it was probably sold through a Gough Industries import, same as my TD, and it came into Los Angeles. Fresno was the dividing line and north of Fresno cars were imported by British Motor Car Distributors, Ltd. of San Francisco, who later acquired all distribution rights in Calif. http://www.mg-cars.org.uk/mgtd/mgtd_america.htm#Importers You can see my import tag on this picture. ![]() |

Paul, It's a crap shoot on entry being recorded on the Heritage certificate. Some shown....mine did not. |

Dave, I would get a certificate if, I knew there would be more information on it other than what's on the production record, build date, engine number and chassis number, color, which I already have. PJ |
