MG TD TF 1500 - Tonneau Support Bar
Can anyone tell the diameter of the support bar for the tonneau that goes across the back seat? It looks about half an inch or five eighths. |

Here's a picture of the rail I'm referrimg to.

"Tonneau Support Bar" I've always wondered what that bar is for. I thought it was just to make it real hard to loosen and tighten the seat adjuster wingnuts. How does it support a tonneau? Thanks. Jud |

Mine, which could be OEM but I make no reps or warranties, mics at 41/64", 0.644" and 16.75mm. Those number don't convert precisely but then the mic cost only $10. Jud |

Jud, the OEM tonneau cover for a TD is a half-tonneau cover, i.e., it doesn't go past the seats. It slips over the top of the tonneau bar and has straps that attach to the LTD studs at the lower edge of the back of the seat. Bud |

Here are a couple of types available for TD and TF. 230 GB Pounds means I think I would rather make one. Or as now - just fold the full tonneau back after fixing the sides just back from the doors with the LTD fasteners and tuck it down behind the seats. But then I'm cheap I guess :) Rod. ![]() |

Thanks. I have a full cover (Aftermarket I'm sure because the books say TDs came only with half covers) that has tears and although once black is now a light charcoal. $600+ to Moss or buy some good canvas and commandeer my wife's sewing machine. I'm inclined toward the latter but wonder if others have any experience making their own? Thanks. Jud ps, If I'm inadvertantly hijscking let me know and I'll start a new thread. |

Hey bud or anyone else with knowledge, I have yet to mount my LTD studs for the elastic straps (which are very long for some reason). Where is the proper place (factory) to mount the LTD studs? Thanks, Rich www.mgtd.co.nr |

Of course I meant 'half tonneau' support bar. Thanks Jud for measuring, near enough 5/8", all bar a hair's width which is close enough for me. My friend's made his own half tonneau by cutting down an old full tonneau, with a short piece of the zip still in place, this makes it easy for his little fox terrier, Oscar, to poke his head out when he's in the back. Note: He's fitted TF seats so the half tonneau bar is different. ![]() |

Indeed those straps are long, Rich. The LTDs are way down low on the back of the seat. This has been asked about before. I'd suggest an archive hunt. Bud |

Thanks Bud :) |

JK, It's easy and dirt cheap to make. 16mm stainless steel curtain rail and 3mm Aluminium for the bracket. Press a nut into the ends of the rail for fixing the bracket. Regards Declan ![]() |

Thanks Declan but I was referring to making a tonneau cover itself, not the bar. Any seamstress (seamster?) out there ever made their own? Jud |

Jud, I had one made from a local guy and he did a great jobbie. Regards Declan ![]() |
