MG TD TF 1500 - Top on My TF
A couple of people have asked for a picture of the top and side curtains on my TF. Here is the only one I have right now. Custom made by a local craftsman in Hackettstown, NJ.

I always favour experienced local craftsmen for these sort of items over off-the-shelf products. Nice job there K.E. Matthew. |

Wow..so THAT is what the tops are supposed to look like! Very nicely done. K E, How was the cost as compared to Moss? Regards, Tom |

Impeccable installation. Quickly when I first saw it I thought it was a hard top. |

Looks great Keith. Bespoke beats off the shelf any day of the week. Also I love seeing mudguard piping the same colour as the car. So rare yet it looks so good! Just the way Cecil intended. Cheers Peter TD 5801 |

The top maker is Jim Krous krous1@comcast.net. If you would like to reach him, let me know and I will give you his number by some kind of private message. His day job is work for a high quality shop for Pebble Beach cars, but he works on his own out of his home garage. Love that word "bespoke"! I bought a Moss top and he showed me why it would not fit. Even the rear window had a 1/4 inch seam from the side on one side and 3/4 on the other - that was just cosmetic and probably below their usual quality. I sold the top half price to a friend and he was happy as it met his driver quality expectations. Then he proceeded to tell me he had to cut some metal out of my original top frame and one side curtain!! I was reluctant, and he asked if the side curtains ever fit? I said no, and he said they never did on this car out of the factory, and showed me why and proved it! I have been looking at T series since 1973 and saw only two that were of this quality (almost) and both were custom made as I think they must be to achieve this fit. The cost will be double to triple what a pre made (Moss or any other) top will be. However, an out of the box top is fine depending on your expectations - I used my Moss top for 40 years and 40k miles and was happy with my "driver" and put the top down at shows! I will admit I was surprised as Jim said the thing people will talk about is my top! He was right, and I displayed one side with side curtains and the other side without per his suggestion. I expected people to notice the only factory radio I have ever seen or found for sale, but not so. Thanks for all your compliments. |
