MG TD TF 1500 - Top Rail Windscreen
Hi Everyone, I am in the process of installing a new hood for my TF. I have a new wooden top rail (over the windscreen). On examining my old one I noticed that there is a thin strip (about 1/2") wide of black (rubberised?) material attached to the top rail which would have rested on the windscreen frame and acted as a seal of some sort. I assume that this was in place from the factory. Any suggestions/advice on what is commonly used these days in place of this would be most appreciated. Many thanks Best wishes Dave |

Never saw any rubber seals on the top frame before. There is a flap that covers the windshield at the top so I am not sure that this would actually achieve anything. |

It's not uncommon. Check Dave Braun's site. He used some polyester batting on his. I used closed cell adhesived foam on mine. It's under the flap and helps it to better seal to the top of the windscreen. Bud |

Are you talking about under the top covering versus between the fabric and windshield frame? I agree about some padding under the fabric, just not on top of it. I guess I got confused about the 'seal' word. Its more of padding than a seal, but I guess you could look at it as a means of making the top seal better because it fills the gap. |

Against the wood, under the fabric. http://www.dbraun99.com/mgtd15470/Weather%20Equipment/Hood%20installation/slides/padding%20tob%20bow.html Bud |

Hi Bud, Chris, Yes, it is against the wood under the fabric. Many thanks for your advice I will follow Bud's suggestion and go for closed cell foam with a self adhesive backing. Many thanks Best wishes Dave |

+Dave W. Hi I havea foam seal ålso between the underside of the wooden rail and the windscreen. The flap on the hood in front will blow up in high speed and the wind will force water into the "cabin". Thoralf. Norway TD 4490 |

Thoralf: I think you are just describing a 'feature' of the MG Ts. :-) |

I used 3/8" truck cap foam and it stuck to the wood , then cover the header with the top material. The top material rests against the windshield, but the foam in behind makes the seal. Haven't had a leak yet....at least not there anyway. |

It also helps immensely if the wooden top bow at the front is virtually straight. If it is curved (like mine) it cannot be pressed down at the corners making for a tight seal. |
