MG TD TF 1500 - Tourist Trophy SS exhaust

Picked up my new TT SS exhaust system from Moss UK today. It is really polished to a bright shine, just like chrome. Look forward to spending more time under the TF to admire the mirror image in the silencer of an owner one year older than his car..

Back to business: Is there anything to be aware of during installation? I hope the new system is a nice fit, would hate to bend or dent it to make it fit!

The one I got for my TD, fit perfect. Took all of 5 min. to install. No clearance problems at all.

Do not forget to use gloves to avoid human acids frustrating the bright shine...

Thank you, I will use white cotton gloves when installing it . I hope the exhaust note is a bit hairy....!

Its a "hairy" sounding note alright. It is a bit louder than what was on there, but settled in nicely after a few miles.

I wonder if I should cover the new exhaust pipe in heat insulating bandage from the manifold flange and down to the muffler. Maybe a sacrilege to cover that nice polished pipe, but are there any opinions on whether this will reduce vapor locking - and burns on my wifes feet? (LHD, I do the driving)

Jan, the exhaust system was originally black. Apart from the manifold, I painted my entire exhaust with Flame Proof Black, which is a ceramic based paint designed for exhaust systems. As I see it there are two advantages, it looks original & most of the heat should go out the pipe. You will probably have to etch the stainless first. Then you can take comfort from the knowledge that your pipes look original, are really shiny under the ceramic & that they will outlast you! Cheers.
