MG TD TF 1500 - Trans Cover ??
Does the rubber cap that goes on top of the transmission go on before the metal cover or afterwards? Second question, how is the speedometer cable routed? I want to hook it up to the transmission before I cover it up, but not sure how it's routed underneath and up through the firewall. PJ |

Paul I have seen several posts here on how to fit the rubber gearbox cover. Some were (I thought) completely wrong. I have owned two MG TD’s and both had the Rubber cover over the metal transmission cover and under the carpet. Its shape matches the surface perfectly. There should be nothing (cover wise) touching the gearbox when it is installed correctly. I don't think on the TF it is any different. JMHO Rod. |

There is information out there that the "snug" goes under the cover. This is in error. It goes on top of the tunnel under the carpet. ..CR |

Rod, You are correct the snug goes over the metal cover, however I must take you to task for your steering column is on the wrong side, it should be on the right hand side :) IMHO. John |

Thanks guys much appreciated. I thought it went under the cover. PJ |

I'm with you John :) This is not my car however, as mine it is in its cocoon for the winter up here in Maine. RHD of cause.... it also has a 5 speed box now and no snug. Rod |
