MG TD TF 1500 - Triplex laminated windscreen glass logo
Would love to see a pic of the Triplex laminated logo from an original TD screen. I have a pic of the toughened logo (which if used here in Oz on a replacement screen will prevent the car being registered). If anyone has a detailed pic please respond & I'll forward my email address. Regards Peter TD 5801 |

Peter, Will this help? http://www.mg-tabc.org/library/triplex_glass.pdf Gene |

Thanks Gene but I already have this article. Unfortunately the TD detail is minimal. Hoping someone somewhere has an original laminated screen from a TD & can provide a pic. Peter TD 5801 |

Here's a picture of the logo in the upper right corner of my '53 TD windscreen. It's tough to photograph and you can barely see the "ASI" at the top of the logo, but it's very faint anyway. Hope this helps. Joe ![]() |

That's great Joe. That is the first pic I've seen of an original laminated screen, apart from the one in Doug's article. (FTFU.) It was made by Triplex in the 4th quarter (dot above the "P" in the word Triplex) in 1952 from laminated plate glass ("L", Plate & the broken circle) with the Vehicle Safety Board ( V S B "Kite") at the bottom. Still unsure what the other "V" stands for, possibly Vehicle & the meaning of ASI. This could refer to a standard, possibly American Standard or more likely Australian Standard as we required all screen glass to be laminated not toughened. Maybe Australian Standard Import? This was also the case in some American States. Great find. If there's enough interest we may be able to persuade Lew to make up a kit for laminated glass screens? Regards Peter TD 5801 |

Does anybody in Australia or elsewhere have an original laminated windscreen with the Triplex logo? Even a cracked screen that still displays the logo? If so please post here or contact me at pjbm at bigpond dot com as I'd love to see another pic like the one Joe Olson posted above. I'm keen to see if any other TD owners anywhere are interested in purchasing a kit to acid etch the original factory Triplex logo onto their replacement laminated screens. There is a guy in America who may be persuaded to make up a laminated logo kit if there is enough interest. His kit for toughened glass logos sells for a very reasonable $35 US. However because of economies of scale it may cost a bit more to produce the laminated kit. Unlike the toughened screen the kit is also a bit more detailed probably requiring a separate screen for each year of TD manufacture. If interested in more information or in possibly getting a kit please post here. I have no financial interest in this. I'm big on original presentation but not too woried about what you can't see. I am just crazy enough to try to take my car back to as close as possible to the way it looked when it left Abingdon on 1st Feb 1951. Cheers Peter TD 5801 |

Calling Joe Olson!. Hey Joe... Any chance of you sending me a copy of the pic you posted? I'd grab it off this site but I don't have a clue how to do that or even if it's possible! My email address is pjbm@bigpond.com Cheers Peter TD 5801 |

Just been informed by a guy who used to work for the Australian Standards Institute as to the meaning of ASI. No prizes for guessing it stands for Australian Standards Institute. Peter TD 5801 |

Good day all: Regarding the Triplex logo, I don't know if anyone has mentioned Doug Pelton, of www.fromtheframeup, at info@fromtheframeup.com. Whilst he specifically targets the TC model, he also has can supply some earlier TD bits. In 2002 about Apr. 22, or so, I believe he submitted a lengthy treatise regarding the originality of Triplex Glass for M.G. T Cars. (to the TTT 1 magazine I now known as the T Register News: www.tregister.org) He included several drawings of these marks and a few photos. There may be some value in contacting this gentleman if it has not already been done. Respectfully submitted: J. Emdall, TC6768/TD3191, Halfmoon Bay, British Columbia, Canada |

Thanks J Emdall. I do have a copy of Doug's article & I mentioned Doug & his business FTFU (From The Frame Up) in the first line of my reply to Joe Olson in this thread. Completely agree his paper is at the cutting edge of this discussion! However he does mention there that some of the detail was unknown including the meaning of ASI. The fact that we now know that it stands for Australian Standards Institute just fills in one more piece of the puzzle! Cheers Peter TD 5801 |
