MG TD TF 1500 - Turn Signal Bulb
Just installed a duel element socket for the front turn signals and have no idea of type of bulb to put in. |

If the two indents that lock the bulb in place are staggered, not in the same plane, its an 1157 or a 1057 Jim B. |
JA Benjamin |
1157 is what I use in my TF. |
Jack Long |
Looked at the socket and both slots are the same. |
CJ Henderson |
CJ - If both slots are the same depth, I believe that the bulb you want is a 1156. When you install it, be sure to test to make sure that the side light filament (that comes on with the head light) is dimmer than the turn signal filiment. If it isn't, turn the bulb 180° so that the turn signal light is the brighter of the two filaments. Cheers - Dave |

Dave, I believe an 1156 is only a single contact bulb with one filament. Try a 1176 or 1158 instead. |

The original standard bracket on the front side lamps for an MGTD is designed to take a 1057 bulb, which are hard to find now (with two circuits but with the pins parallel, not staggered; so it will work in either orientation). Any 1157 bulb will fit (but may jam a bit) and you may want to file one pin side down a bit to make it easier to fit. The pins exist only for orientation, so you don't need both of them, one will hold it in place. In any case, you do want to make sure that you have it oriented correctly so that the turn signal circuit is the bright one. Or find and install a modern bracket designed for 1157 bulbs. |

I have a 10-pack of 1176 bulbs. Dual parallel pins, 12V, 21/6 CP. Be happy to send you a couple (plus a spare) if I can figure out a reasonable way to package them so that they don't break. Bud |
