MG TD TF 1500 - Turn Signal Lights on TF

I am becoming very conscious that drivers are failing to recognize the rear red turn signals that are the original fitment on the 1250 TF.

I am requesting images of the lamps other owners have installed. Not compatible with the mounting of lights on the rear bumper nor do I have a luggage rack fitted that others have used to mount their lamps.

Appreciate any advice, thanks.

Mine are mounted on the upper bolt holding on the tank side plate. They are high enough to comply with our regulations and are visible from the side. I think they are Honda M/C but not sure.I know they look lopsided but it is just lens distortion.
I don't know about your regs but here if you fit rear amber then the fronts must also be amber
The registration number is original to car and despite many offers it stays on.

Because the brakes are almost always used before a turn is started, I'm thinking a good strong 3rd brake light will give enough warning, and then give them a chance to notice a flashing light. These days only half of the people I drive behind use their turn signals... but they ALL use their brakes.

I did something similar to Ray.
Here is the way I did it.

Photo from side. Pods are glass fibre and are stuck to the body. There is no orange peel on the paint it is an optical illusion.

Many thanks fellas, some interesting solutions to this problem.

G Evans, If you give me your email I can show you what I have done using the lucas side lights at the rear with amber lenses. Unfortunately no matter what I try I cannot load the pics of them on the BBS. And of course they are still Lucas.

Have been after the angled rubber light fitting as shown on the rear of your car.
Can you provide me with the supplier & ref number details?

Hi John,

I made up the lamps myself. The plinths were cast in fibre glass using a plastic bottle as a mould (owning a Lotus Élan helps!) I cannibalised two original Lucas lamps and ditched all the internal metal work and part of the rubber sleave. I used one of the contactless bulbs that are fitted to modern cars. The contacts are just two wires, squashed into the glass. When fitted into a holder they are still shallow enough to fit into the Lucas lens. I made up a ring, the same size as the original flange, to take the fixing screws and fixed the bulb holder in this with epoxy. The indicators look very similar to TF 1500 reflectors an don't look like add ons. The only modifications needed to the wiring is to disconnect the cable from the brake switch that goes to the relay box and connect it directly to the original brake lamps. The original wires to the brake / flashers are lengthened and power the new flashers. I got the idea for the modification after purchasing conversion inners for the front lamps from Stafford Electrical. They use a small clear, bayonet bulb for the side lamps and an amber contactless bulb for the flashers. I measured this and found it would flush fit at the rear.

I have reactivated this thread for your attention, Jan has the solution you are looking for.

Mr. Evans. Sorry I've been slow to give my 5 bobs worth but, here is my solution to the issue of clear rear-end indication! Check out Classic & Vintage Bulbs web site, he hails from Blackwood South Ozz. I bought a pair of lights at his market stall. Apologies for the picture quality.

Finally, number 3 0f 3. Note I am still 'playing' with the covering for the wires - looking for a happy solution.

Best luck in sorting out your lighting.

my solution in the following 2 pictures. I bought a mini led from Super bright led - part no MMR-R and drilled a 5/8 hole in the TF rear reflector.

This the finished product - looks almost stock
