MG TD TF 1500 - Turn signal switch broke
I flipped the turn signal this morning and it felt odd and I flipped it the other way, then it suddenly went further than it should. On disassembly, one of the two "tabs" on the round pneumatic inner plastic plunger had snapped off. I'm trying to epoxy it now, but am not sure if its going to work. I also noticed a big crack in the inner housing, which snapped off in my hand (I reckoned that if it could break, I'd better fix it too, so I put some pressure on it to test it and sure enough it broke). So that's epoxying too. But I also noticed that a couple of other bits (one side of one tab on the outside rear that helps hold one of the electrical junctions, and a chip at another place) had broken too, so I'm wondering if this is really the end of the life of the plastic on this unit. After all, it is 64 years old. Has anybody had luck repairing/epoxying/gluing the plastic on these, or should I just order a repro ($120+ yuck!) switch now? |

just my opinion..i am all about the fix rather than toss. but i believe with the number of issues you listed with this case it maybe time to give the old part a proper burial. regards, tom |

Maplin sell a latchable, adjustable timer. If you can get the switch to simply make left and right contact you can use one of these to set the duration of the indicator flashing electronically rather than the old, pneumatic system. Jan T |

On this one, EBay is your friend! They regularly turn (sorry about the pun) up. |

Geoffrey, Brown & Gamons have them listed, but very expensive at Just under $75.00! $16.75 shipping. Moss way high at $129.00! Plus shipping. PJ |

Paul, that's 74 POUNDS which is $125.72... plus shipping from England.... Moss is cheaper. |
Geoffrey M Baker |
The cheapest is MG Wrexham at 65 Pounds. I don't know about their shipping. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MGA-INDICATOR-SWITCH-/231218641324?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item35d5b479ac Regards Declan |

That price includes VAT which should be deducted for export to USA. Regards Declan |

I just bought two door handles and what they are listed for is what I paid in US dollars. You pay no VAT, which is deducted when placing the order. It cost me $16.95 for shipping and was here in a week. When you make up your order, you will be directed to the check out page and if you have a US address, the VAT will be dropped. You are able to check the order and entire price you pay before checking out. I did not pay the pound conversion. PJ |

Here's a breakdown, listed price for the door handles was 20.79 ea. I bought two totaling 41.48 plus 16.75 shipping. Total order, $58.33. Check with B&G, their nice people to deal with. You'll be pleased. PJ |

Paul, check your credit card invoice. I suspect that it has done an automatic conversion from 58.33 pounds to $98.90... plus there may be a currency conversion charge. Let us know... |

So I reassembled the switch today and the nubbin broke off again immediately... Anybody got any old switch innards? |
Geoffrey M Baker |
Geoffrey, You better call B&G and get their input. I know what I paid and how much! I'm not a stranger to money matters, foreign or domestic. Please don't try to give the impression that I don't know what I'm talking about! You do as you wish and buy wherever you wish, your privilege! I was only trying to be helpful. I could post my invoice from B&G, but I wont give the world that info. End of conversation. PJ |
Paul S Jennings |
Paul I'm very sorry... I was certainly not trying to be rude... And I know you were also trying to be helpful.. And I appreciate that! Maybe you just lucked out but I tried b&g's site and it sure looked to me like I was going to pay the pound rate on it... Sorry again, you should know how much I appreciate your comments and suggestions and advice! |

My original switch just died plus the threads that hold it on the dash are long gone. I'm just going to leave it for "show" and use a 3 way toggle switch (hidden) and even add a warning light. Total investment under $20 bucks from ACE Hardware. I know, it won't win any shows but mines just a driver. Ed |

If anyone has a nonfunctional switch that has a good inner plunger I would make an offer... |
