MG TD TF 1500 - Under Dash Panel
I need to source a sheet of the material that makes up the under dash panel. The one I currently have is a tad short in places and is not a good fit. I can replicate it with the extra length where needed but have no idea where to obtain the material. Any pointers would be helpful I am in South West Florida. TIA Rod

Rod - It has been many years since I made the under dash cover, but as I remember, I the only place that had a sheet of heavy material was a art supply house. Cheers - Dave

I sourced mine from an upholstery shop. It is backer board and available in several thicknesses.

+1, upholstery shop, but count on doubling the thickness of regular door panel material. Some shops will have the thicker stock, ask around. Single weight may sag in high humidity.

Makes nice dry flammable stuff to feed your underdash electrical fire, meanwhile preventing you from addressing the source of the conflagration! Sorry, I couldn't resist this comment after my underdash flame-up which lit up the grease in the starter cable sheath. I think the whole car would have gone up if I'd had an underdash cover.

I took mine off and left it off as I want to have access to the wiringing since my wiring is original as my car is. David....

I used masonite. It is the correct thickness and the smooth side is ideal to glue thin material to. I have an original out of the car. I can get the thickness and a good picture of the material. Post it tomorrow. The original was covered in a very thin material. Not the same as the dash. The material went over the metal brackets.

I bought a new one from Moss a couple years ago for the TF, not sure if they still have them. PJ

Mine is 1/4" plywood. I'll split it along the length of the steering column so that the majority of it can be removed without dropping the steering column. Tim TD12524

I removed this panel some years ago. Has anyone an idea or solution to built a new one that is made of 3 or 4 sections for easyer mounting and easyer acess to the Instruments and central Panel without pulling the steering shaft? I would favourate thin brick plywood with black Vinyl on the underside. Ralph TD 19435
