MG TD TF 1500 - Unidentified Piece of Vinyl
I am laying out all the vinyl (rexine) panels to see how much I need to buy. Perhaps someone already knows? I have found a large rectangle 3'5" x 15" with a turned over hem along one edge, with a piece of strong elastic inside. Each end of the elastic has a large press stud. The other long end has holes for nails or screws. I attach a photo showing about half of the piece. What is this for? Jan T ![]() |

Apparently it is 3.5 feet by 15 inches, not 3.5 inches as in the original post. Looks like it might be a cover for the cargo area behind the seats. BobbyG |

I agree with Bobby. Sounds plausible. Jan: How well does this match the other vinyl parts of your interior? And do you know if they are original or not? What are the large press studs made of? Can you provide a closeup shot of one? Do you see any ghosting or extra screw holes in your boot area this might attach too and perhaps two devices that the snap studs would connect with? This could be an interesting period accessory. |

Pretty close in size to the side curtain box lid? Studs for the straps? Just guessing here. |

Hi all, My partly restored car was stored at Naylor Brothers for many years pending probate of the owner who had been killed in a motorcycle accident. I have found a number of items in "the boxes of bits" that are not TF or even MG parts. I suspect the cover I am querying is one of these. Whilst the colour appears to be similar to other bits of upholstery the grain is finer. The clincher though is the colour of the reverse side. The back of the original Refine is red whist that of the cover in question is a neutral cloth colour. I attach a photo of one of the press studs laid over a rear quarter panel. Can someone please let me know what the stud on the panel is for? Also what are the two "lift a dot" studs for on the rear of the seat backs and the metal hoops to the top of the backs. I suspect they are something to do with a toneau cover but I have an original one and cannot see how they work. Cheers Jan T ![]() |

Hi Jan, It looks like a PO made a hide away cover for when the car was left with the hood up and gear left in the car. Probably nailed to the backboard then stretched between those studs on the panel either side. The LTD studs and bars are for a half tonneau fitment. I was told the TF only came with a half tonneau. Ray - I suspect the same as to the item in question. As to the half tonneau, also correct. It did not cover the seating area, and the flap was tucked in between the seat back and the tonneau rail to keep it from flapping around. BobbyG |
