MG TD TF 1500 - Upholstering the rear top rail ends
Does anyone have some good photos of the very front of the upholstered curved end pieces of the TF top rail set? I'm looking for a good example of how a nice upholstered end looks. I can't seem to get mine folded and glued and to look nice (too many thicknesses of vinyl/too much material). Many thanks for help. Tyler |

Here is a photo of the front end of the top rail curved section from my recent upholstery efforts on my TD. It is the only photo I could find that shows (just barely) the front edge of that curved piece of wood. I'm not sure about the same piece on a TF.

Tyler, I have a TD - but the back looks to be very similar. I did notice my side pieces are rounded at the front? Which makes the folding and darts a little easier to manage I think. Anyway, I hope this offers some thought on how to do this. Rod ![]() |

Rod Is the upholstery on the rear rails glued on, or is it just wrapped and stapled/nailed. (Mine was an abomination whish bore no resemblance to original.) Ian TF4056 |

Ian, its both, on the corners the material has to be stretched around the outside curve (and glued) to throw some shape into the material to glue the inside curve wrinkle free. Staples/tacks are used underneath to hold it tight. The ends are folded and trimmed to go underneath and then are stapled. When the glue dries out the material as stretched shrinks nice and tight on the wood. I will find an original corner piece and see if I can get an image of the end cut outs. these are formed so there are no cut edges on the ends but they form small folds so no wood is exposed when it shrinks. The straight piece is glued but stretched on as its fitted and stapled underneath with the ends formed the same way as the corners. |

Here are some shots of the wrapping on the ends of a piece off my TF. Hope it helps. Richard ![]() |

thanks all, I guess the trouble is that the new Moss fabric is thicker than the original rexine, so when when one does a "Christmas package " fold on the end of a trim piece, it gets pretty thick on the underside of the trim piece. Ideally, to get the trim piece to sit flat on the tub, it should be only one thickness high. Any more close-up photos out there? thanks, Tyler |

Tyler, Would it be possible to shave a little wood off of the bottom of the trim piece?? ie make it thinner to allow for the thicker material?? SPW |
